I was in LA this week on business and I was able to rent a brand new V-6 STS from Hertz. This is a great way to really test drive a car you're considering. I was very impressed! The six had good power, although I would only consider the 8, the ride was excellent and I thought the handling was okay, not BMW like but acceptable. This really helped me in my decision since I drove it 150 miles vs a test drive at a dealer of 3 miles. I think I could live with the car although I would like to drive a CTS, I understand the SP comes with 18" wheels in the 06 model. I imagine that 255hp V6 is preety good in a lighter car like the CTS. Anyway, I recommend this test drive if you are considering an STS and want to put it through the paces without someone sitting with you.
The CTS is not that much lighter. It rides on the same chassis, and only inches smaller. I liked the STS due to the interior, that made the difference. The world sees the exterior and u have to live with the interior. STS is just that much nicer.
I am shocked that Cadillac is putting the STS in rental fleet's ! I travel to LA monthly and I only rent from Hertz. I have never seen an STS ror rent.
The 1SG package makes the STS a different car....

Well, next time look at the "premiere collection" they also have Audi A-6, Jag S, XJ and others. Since the Caddy had 700 miles on it, I assume it's a new addition to the fleet. I think it's a good idea to get the cars in the hands of new potential buyers.
Actually, there is between 300 and 400 pounds of difference between the two.

It's good to know as now I can rent a car that will really make me feel at home on the 405 !
