View Full Version : Smart Buy question? mhart25 05-20-05, 02:32 PM I have been shopping around for a 2005 STS with the 1sc package and have several different offers. Here's the deal I was looking for: 1sc STS V6 (sticker price 49,xxx), 15k/year, 36 months and no money down. One dealer offered me $709, one offered $710 and the other offered $665. These prices include the tax. Obviously the first two are even ($1), but the last one almost seems to good to be true. Do any of these deals seem good? Are they all too much? Any comments would be helpful. Thanks in advance. ciaramita 05-20-05, 04:52 PM $50,000 for a STS V6?! You can get the V8s for $45,000 if you look hard enough. mhart25 05-20-05, 05:53 PM $50,000 for a STS V6?! You can get the V8s for $45,000 if you look hard enough.
Thanks for the response. However I was looking for some comments regarding the lease (smart buy) prices. As for a V8 at $45,000, that would be without navigation I assume. My car must have nav. malcolm 05-20-05, 06:12 PM Thanks for the response. However I was looking for some comments regarding the lease (smart buy) prices. Whichever you choose V8 or V6, I think you will find the smartbuy monthly cost greater than a smartlease. I also wanted to smartbuy but given the numbers, it was less monthly cost to lease. If I am loving the car at the lease end I can always buy it then. mhart25 05-20-05, 08:38 PM Whichever you choose V8 or V6, I think you will find the smartbuy monthly cost greater than a smartlease. I forgot to mention that here in NY we don't have leases, we have smartbuys. It's basically the same thing. The prices I quoted were for Smartbuys (leases). Again, does anyone have a comment as to whether or not the prices seem good? Playdrv4me 05-20-05, 08:39 PM Yep, in TX you can pretty much only do SmartBuy and it always sucked. If you can do the SmartLease I think youll find the numbers much more favorable. malcolm 05-20-05, 10:01 PM I heard that quite a few states are not permitting leasing, something do to with liability for GMAC. As the titled owner they have been successfully sued. As it was told to me when Billy Martin, the old Yankees manager was killed in his pickup, it was a GMAC lease and the estate successfully sued. The price difference between smartbuy and smartlease has to do with how sales tax is treated and that's what makes the smartbuy price a little more. It's not a big difference but it is more. Run the numbers through the payment estimator off the Cadillac web site. In somes states, Leaseing puts you into a commerical catagory, which requires personal taxes. Stuff like that.
The difference in price could be from dealer to dealer. Some dealers look at each car as individual sale, other dealers look at car sales as a total. If they move so many cars off there lot, then they kick backs and bonuses. Some dealers sale for this some do not. In Texas, Classic Chevrolet is like that, the Thompson group, gets kick backs for selling so many units, so they take there kick back money roll it into the cars and push that many more units.
Some dealers if the vehicles are new and have not been sitting on the lot, they will discount the hold back money. Some dealers give first time buyer discounts at there stores. Crest Caddy did this a while back, they were offering sales incentives on Esclades and offering 20K off of them. The way car sales work is how many u sell is how many u get. If u get a alotment of 10 XLR's, you sell 10 and dealer trade for say 2 more and sell them. Next year u can opt to order 12 XLR's. Its a units sold game. Or it could be as simple as you requested 15K a year, and they quoted 12K a year. | |
