View Full Version : My Only Issue with the STS Is.... I wanted to post this in the hopes that someone at Cadillac will see it.
My issue is....
I wish the car had more room inside.
There seems to be this thing at GM in the last 7 years or so where they design a mid size car that has excellent room and then come out with the large passenger car and in many respects there is LESS spread out room than the mid sizer.
Or there is some weird architecture with the larger car that gives it less visibility, or the console impedes on legroom, etc. etc.
or the backseat is not bigger than the mid sizer.
I don't get it.
I mean the Intrigue had decent room but the Aurora did not.
The Gp is okay inside but the Bonnie offers no incentive to upgrade.
What is going on here?
I don't see how Cadillac can give the STS 2+" longer wheelbase than the CTS and the backseat not be that much bigger and the front seat feel tighter.
GM makes the bigger car more refined. Quieter, better engines, better options. But that is all.
I think the CTS is a great car but the SRX is more refined. SO i drive the STS and I am more comfortable in the CTS.
Rant over. I think the STS has more than enough room in it. No one that I have ever taken out in it has complained. They are just overwhelmed by how nice the car is. I love everything about the car. I look foward to stealing it from my wife and just cruising.
I do not like the SRX, due to how the front seat are. You have to step down into the car, like a 90's Vette. Every time I get out of one I drag my pants over the step. That was one of the main reason why I did not purchase it. Loved everything else about it though. Great looking also. don_mccarter 05-20-05, 12:12 AM I wanted to post this in the hopes that someone at Cadillac will see it.

I perfer an STS sized car with a center console and bucket seats.
Isn't it supposed to be a sports sedan?
If one wants something bigger there are DeVilles and Towncars for them. STS LAB 05-20-05, 10:18 AM I agree with b4z completely. My 93 STS had great back seat room. The (I believe) 98 model change for the STS reduced the back seat room and I would not buy the car. Unfortunately, the 2005 STS did not correct this problem. I am sick of hearing from the dealers that the back seat room (and gas tank) have been downsized so the trunk can accomadate two full sized golf bags!! That is a poor design goal in my book. Blue Chip 05-20-05, 10:51 AM I’m amazed by this discussion. I traded a 2000 Seville STS for my 2005 STS. All my passengers who were used to riding in the Seville have told me they love having lots of room in the STS. I have a friend who is 6’3”. He is delighted with the roominess of the STS. I’m 6’ and have more than enough room. I should add that neither I nor any of my passengers is obese. If you are, you should start eating like a decent human first (rather than like a wild animal) and then get an STS once you become a normal person. ruaturtle 05-20-05, 01:34 PM Just had to say....I LOVE THAT LAST POST! LMAO Playdrv4me 05-20-05, 01:36 PM The reason there is less room is because of the fact the new STS is really a world market car, as well as the trend toward more German like driving characteristics. Because of this, more attention is paid to the overall wheelbase in respect to driving feel than interior room. You just plain have to make a trade-off one way or another. malcolm 05-20-05, 01:37 PM I came out of an 02 Seville into my 05 STS and as far as I am concerned the back seat in each is a little tight for a cars of this size. If it weren't for the little knee room they have in the back of the STS seats it would be a real tight fit. Maybe OK for two kids but that's about it. STS 310 05-20-05, 02:26 PM I should add that neither I nor any of my passengers is obese. If you are, you should start eating like a decent human first (rather than like a wild animal) and then get an STS once you become a normal person.
LOL. Classic.
That being said, I guess you would know about "wild animals" being from Kentucky.....
Also, that being said, I dont think you would know what a "normal" person is, being from Kentucky....
Just backin up the obese population. There people to! LOL. Blue Chip,
Or should I call you and your passenger "shorty".
That was a really well thought out post.
You made an assumption based on what you perceived MY problem(not the car's) to be.
I weigh exactly 200lbs.
I am 6'8" tall.
Granted I am in the 100th percentile in height. But I have always been able to fit into GM products.
When somebody posts that they are comfortable in one manufacturer's vehicle that is smaller but not the one that is bigger. You should consider their objections.
Perhaps you should not have reply'd to this thread at all.
Another poster who replied offerred a constructive point.
And his experience is my experience. The '93 STS has much more room than the second generation because of how the knee bolster intrudes + the back seat room is smaller.
The third generation is the same also.
My 6'9" Cadillac salesman agrees with me and not with you.
Axiously awaiting you retort.
It better be good. 6'8" I can see why you are having problems. How often do u ride in the back seats?? I have never been in mine nor will I ever sit in them.. If you want the bigger car, the DTS will be out shortly and they look the same. Just not as sporty. STS is built directly at BMW 5 series. Thats what people are buying so thats what they are fighting for. If u have ever riden in a BMW, the rear seats leave much to be desired.
There was a post about GM changing the 06 model and increasing the length of the cushion for better support. I think the trunk in the STS sucks, it will barely fit my kids stroller. Its a very tight fit and car seats are a pain to get in and out, damn leather is to tight. tdogg5184 05-22-05, 04:21 AM I think that they are shortening the cushion in the rear seat to give more leg room for 06 so maybe that will help some. For some reason it feels like there is more room in the 05 than in my 00, maybe it is because there is a bigger indent on the backs of the front seats. I feel the STS is good for what market is competing in with the imports.
By the way that post from blue chip could have been very offensive to certain people calling the obese wild animals and subhuman. In my opinion that was unacceptable. |
