Clunk / Rattle in there tranny? I get a rattle / clunk in my clutch / tranny some times when I try to shift under 2000rpm. Most of the times it between 1-2 or 2-3 shifts.

Has anyone else experienced this????? :banghead:

The dealer changed the diff, said it had excessive lash in it. Yes I can feel the differents but the clunk is still in the tranny. WTF, I can't figure it out.

Thx

I have it. Very noticeable and predictable. My V is now at 1,200 miles.

What do you think it is? I have 2600mi on mine, and it is noticeable. I was hopping that someone has had it fixed and might know what the problem is, so we could tell our dealers.

yes... this is actually very common...
especially in the Vette's I have driven.

I've got 29K on my V now and I don't have any clunk or rattle anymore.

I started to notice it a month or two after I installed the BMR AWK. But even after the BMR AWK was removed, it was less harsh but still noticeible. I finally got the dealer to replace the bushings in the rear and the clunking went away but the V still drove like something wasn't quite right. A couple of weeks later the rear diff cracked and I blow the driveshaft. After having that fixed, my V feels better and the ride is more quiet. Absolutely no clunking.

So I would start with the bushings (I don't remember the part number but if you do a search of this forum, you will find it) because most people have had good results with them.

If you still have the sounds, then I guess you have one of the many V rears that will blow soon. So be prepared.

As most of you are aware I've spent quite a bit of time on the phone with National Cadillac Customer Service, the Regional Service Rep' and various individuals from our local dealership from the Service Manager and Service Writer to the actual Service Technician who keeps replacing broken half shafts and worn out bushings about every 10,000 miles or so. Here is what I've learned so far:

GM Engineers approve of the following noises and symptoms:

Wobble
Shimmy
Vibration
Clunk
Chunk
Wiggle
Clank
Shake
Clatter
Rattle
Clink
Thud
Crack
Clap
Quiver
Clang

To date the only unapproved noise is

BANG!

The clunk rattle you are talking about could be the flywheel.. does it happen when you press down on the clutch while going slow?

Its normal.. thats the dual mass flywheel clunking around... GM states this is normal.

If you really want to get rid of it, you can install an aftermarket flywheel which will be lighter and not make noise. Some say that improves performance as well (but that is under debate somewhere around here).

Someone on the forum has a aftermarket flywheel installed and can give you a better review if you are interested I am sure.

Lawfive it went more like this:

CVP: My car vibrates.

Yoda-Tech: Unable to duplicate we are.

CVP: Are you an idiot? It's doing it again! I'll be back.

Yoda-Tech: Persistent you are.

........12 days later

CVP: OK, now I have to come back in my half shaft is gone.

Yoda-Tech: Gone you say?

CVP: Yes, gone.

Yoda-Tech: Aggressive this one. Repaired it is.

........3 days later

CVP: Uh, the half shaft is gone again.

Yoda-Tech: Twice I have heard this.

CVP: Yes, twice now.

Yoda-Tech: Abusive you are.

CVP: Excuse me?

Yoda-Tech: Abusive you are, V's break not.

CVP: How do you figure?

Yoda-Tech: V's do not break, V's cannot break.

CVP: I can show you roughly 200 posts on the internet to the contrary.

Yoda-Tech: Ahh, yes the dark side. I have felt this for some time.

CVP: Oh, go *uck yourself
