I'm helping restore an 85 Biarritz convertible and one of the things being replaced is the carpeting. It was a tough task to find an exact match for the Tampico carpet.
Anyway, has anyone removed and/or replaced the accelerator pedal in one of these cars? I'm having problems figuring out how to remove it from the floor.
Thanks!

Yeah, it is a real pain to do!
Unless you have the special tool of course...
There is a metal bracket with a square hole welded to the floor. The carpet has an openning to expose part of the bracket and the hole.
Then the base of the gas pedal has a plastic snap on the bottom of it which snaps and locks into that square hole.
Snap sort of looks like this (side view):

(assuming the spaces in my drawing line up).
In order to remove the gas pedal you need to pinch both sides of that plastic snap in order to release it from the square hole on the bracket.
I was able to do it after some serious wiggling with couple of flat head screwdrivers and some flat thin bars of steel. It was a major pain. And I now don't recall if I had to go under the metal bracket or between the bracket and the bottom of the plastic pedal base in order to release it. But I hope that I don't ever have to do it again!
If I haven't mention it before: It was a pain! :D
Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed tip!
I'll give it a whirl in the next couple of days.
