"Best" is relative. Cost, availability, climatic conditions, vehicle usage,...
I have put almost 100k on my 86 Brougham with 10w30 pennzoil. 3k OCI.
The oil forum at bobistheoilguy.com has a lot of opinions and knowledge on the subject.

To condense it, the best oil to use, and one that I recommend and use in all of my cars is one of the HD15W40 oils such as Rotella T, Delo or Delvac.

I prefer the Rotella T.

How does that 86 Brougham like the HDEO? I assume it is a 307?
Was thinking of making that move. I put 300k on a Volvo diesel using that Rotella.

Loves it. Yes, it is a 307. When I bought the car, it had been using 10W30 and going through a litre every week and a half. Once I started using the Rotella T it virtually eliminated any oil consumption.

The engine runes extremely smooth and quiet, and strts in the coldes weather. last New Years in Northern Ontario, it was -35C and it started fine. Cranked slowly, though.

My driver is an '85 Caprice, and it uses it too. No oil consumption at all.
