View Full Version : Are these holes in the airfilter housing supposed to have something... '84 HT4100 TBI

Everytime I go out above 40 MPH the transmission take way too long to downshift and causes the engine to strain for a half-sec. I know that it is because the hose keeps popping off of the Breather Filter in the side of air-cleaner housing, so I clamped the hose onto the Breather Filter, and now air is leaking around the breather filter and causing the same problem.

There are two of these holes in the side of the air cleaner housing. You can see one of them here. What is supposed to be there to seal the adapters and tubes to the housing? (hose #2/hole #2 is the rear most hole that slips over the relaceable breather filter, Hose #1/Hole #1 attaches to a black plastic piece towards the front of the engine)

Hi Solid! Hole #1 should be for the PCV filter (it's usually black with a white filter in it) - it's cheap and Hose #2 should plug into the filter. The PCV filter goes inside the air filter area. The second hole in the front area is for a different valve (vacuum?). I'll check my car to see exactly what it is and let you know. You should have another hose that hooks onto that valve.

HI,

OK, you can check if you would like to for me. that would be great. Thanks.

But, I have it all hooked up, I just get air leaks around the "stuff" and it behaves like the hose in the back is disconnected (transmission doesn't shift down at the right time + rough up-shifts) even though I hose-clamp'd the hoses. They don't seal against the air-box.

Ok... the 1st hole should have a filtered breather that has a hose which connects to the PCV in the valve cover, and the 2nd hole should be attached to a hose which goes to a vacuum junction with a hose that leads to the smog pump (air pump). Hope this isn't too confusing. :bulging:

These hoses have nothing to do with your problem. The air box or air filter container is not made to be air tight. You need a fresh approach to this problem.
