: Phenolic Spacer Plates

Went to pull the manifold cover off my 94 STS, and there was just tons of stuff mounted on the air inlet side.

Just read a past thread, is there enough play in all that for me to prop the manifold up so that I can get the plates out to clean?

BTW, spark plugs were a breeze. However, after 132k, alot of the plastic up on the engine is becoming fatigued. I don't suppose there's a package for replacing some of that stuff?

You can just take the manifold off to get to the plates...disconnect the wires and pull the four long bolts out, it'll lift right off and then you can clean the plates and put it all back together...shouldn't take but an hour!

There's a bracket that sits on the air intake, which holds just an awful lot of stuff. As I was taking it off, seemed like there were quite a few pieces which would have to be disconnected in order to free up the manifold.

Are you saying just pull all the wires leading off this bracket ( and attendent equipment) and the manifold comes out, bracket and all?

Not sure what you mean...you can pull the air box and the tube from that to the throttle body easily...then unplug the wires and with the four bolts out, it'll lift out of there really easy. Maybe not all the way off, so you don't have to pull the fuel line, but it should come up plenty far enough to pull the spacer plates out.

I'll take your word for it and give it another shot this weekend.

Theres a bracket mounted right over where the tube from the airbox runs into the manifold. A plastic triple plug, looks like vacuum lines, is plugged into that bracket. There's also a bunch of plastic wire conduits and some such attached to that bracket, which actually sticks out almost to the driver side wheel well.

It was late in the day, and I figured I could change the plugs pretty easily with the time I had left, but I'll need a few hours to ponder over unhooking the manifold. ;)

Ok...I know what plug you're talking about...that will just pop right off...You sure you're not talking about the throttle body when you mention this bracket? There is one crossmember bar that runs from the shocktower to the front, it just takes a 10mm socket to remove, super easy, but it shouldn't be in your way...can make airbox removal easier, but isn't necessary. I can't for the life of me think of what it is you're talking about...I'll have to look at mine tomorrow if I remember...Good luck with it!
