I am interested in purchasing a 1995 eldorado that I came across. He is asking $6000 and says it's in excellent condition and is garage kept. However it has 108,000 miles, which is a lot more than I really want on a car. How long do the northstar engine's last? I know they are not cheap maintenence, so I don't want to buy it and be dumping a lot into it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Don
I wouldnt spend $6000 unless it was the pearl white or red with chrome wheels. Maybe $5500 max for a 95
The northstar should last around 250-300k miles. The 98 or 99 N* i think had head gasket problems, but as far as ive seen, the 93-95 N* has shown some good numbers even some over 300k. The inside of the engine will look like brand new at 200k.
I got my 94 eldo for $4750 with 68k miles on it. Love it, no problems what so ever with motor or tranny, besides a small oil leak from half case, but it doenst bother me. Its not the color i wanted either, but we are kinda limited here in SD. I almost drove to Denver to go get one right before i found mine.

Yeah, the only reason i am considering it, is because it's black with black leather and chrome wheels, which is exactly what i have been looking for.

I have a 94, bought it in 2002 with 92k on it. It now has 117k. I haven't had to do anything to it besides regular maintenance items: brake pads, alternator, plugs, wires, one coil pack, belts, etc. Plugs, wires, and belts are something I decided to do as a tune up item. When I buy a car, I am high on replacing items like those if they look a little worn. That way I know when they have been replaced.
Be sure the coolant has been changed every two years as prescribed in the owners manual. Lack there of is the biggest cause of head gasket failure.

That being said, it is not going to be a big cost to you to do this. Don't forget the pellets. Simple job.
If you don't keep up on preventative maintenance, you will end up dumping alot of money into the Caddy.
