: Sold the truck

Well,

I have tentatively sold the truck to a very nice gentleman in Phoenix who offered me 33,500 for it, which is basically 1000 more than I paid for it (not taking into account some negative equity I carried over) so Im quite happy, and I think the truck is really what he wanted.

So now Ill just have to decide if I want to go with that Mark VIII ive been after, or something with payments again, like an M3, M5 or S-Type R. Im so used to driving really nice cars I just dont know happy I would be with a Mark VIII, but it certainly has everything I would need.

Congrats! Now it looks like you have a decision to make. So many options. I know I'm no help. Good Luck it will be interesting to see what you choose.

LMAO! How did you know that?

I dont think theres anything wrong with it, I bought the truck and enjoyed it for a few months, used it to move all my stuff up here to the Northeast, put about 6k miles on it and now Im ready for something smaller again. Im not losing any money on it, and come January 2006 with the redesign any hopes of getting out of it will be gone. I just like to try different things frequently. The problem with the way I USED to do things, is that I used to trade my cars back in, which generated alot of equity I had to make up, now I just sell them. I sold both the Lexus and the truck for more than they were sold to me for.

Im sure Ill end up keeping something for a couple of years, but I just havent found it yet.

So an Escalade EXT might hold value better?

Interesting. Come to think of it I see a lot of older trucks in the local classifieds selling for a good price and I guess it's because they are more versatile and people can do a lot more with them, are always in demand, etc.

I say we make IAN buy a Yugo next! That way, whatever he has after that he'll keep for a very long time because he'll finally be happy and appreciate it. :shhh: :sneaky: :)

Yup, we're two of a kind! I started driving when I was 18 and I think the black truck is also my 11th car since then. I owe alot of that to my buddy at the dealership in Wichita, he always finds some miraculous way of getting me out of one thing and into something else, and he still helps me out even if im not trading anything in, where he really made his money when he could resell my trade-ins.

Of everything Ive owned I think my little red BMW 330i was my favorite car, but it was just too small for someone like me who moves around alot and needs space. I would still consider an M3 if I could find one cheap enough, but otherwise I need a mid-size to large sedan that can tow something.

I think the Mark VIII is unique in that it is well under 10k and still maintains a very unusual and modern shape, as well as some very popular and useful features of todays luxury cars. It and possibly a Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited are the only "cheap" cars Im considering.

What's next? Do you have the luxury to wait and look for something or do you need to buy as soon as you complete the sale of your Avalanche?

Test drove a 2002 Q45 today....man they are nice and must be the best baragains out there right now. This was a loaded 02 with only 22K miles, from the Infiniti dealer, certified preowned for $28,000!

Congrats on your sale!

*eager to see what you get*

I owned a 97 Mark VIII and l loved it but boy do the resale values on them suck. When new those cars were $40k and I bought one 2 1/2 years ago for $10k and sold it for less than $4000 a few months ago.

LOL, I didnt think anyone was going to be interested. Trust me, around my circle friends its usually "Oh no, here we go again"... ;)

Tomm, was it you that had the white one with the subs in it and stuff? I am definitely looking for a 97 or 98 LSC only, 290hp, xenon lights, JBL Audio system, sounds real nice.

Powerglide, the 02's Q is very nice, but you had to go 03 to get the heated and cooled seats, and I generally am not a fan of the exterior unfortunately. Lots of technology in that car though. If I was going to for something in the large car category from 02, it would be probably a 745Li or 745i. I used to hate it but now it has grown on me a bit, I like it more than the S430 anyway.

Wow, those are both really nice cars, the M3 is a tad above my price range but it looks like a steal at that price. The Mark VIII is beautiful too, Ive never seen that color but he is definitely asking alot for those miles.

That is a beautiful car and Id gladly give my left you know what to have one (saw it last night in Monster in Law in fact!), but its too far out of my price range unless I leased it or something.

Ian, I checked out a nice burgandy 2001 XJ8 today at the Honda dealership that someone traded. They wanted $32,000 (Cdn of course) and it had lower mileage. Not bad considering that's what a new Mustang GT costs here. They are over 100K new! But I remember you and RC saying something about sulfers in the fuel effecting the 2001 piston walls or something. However, I don't think we have the sulfer content here that the U.S. does as I've heard our fuel is better quality because of our tough environmental laws, etc.

Mark VIIIs are awesome. I was seriously considering one before I bought my ETC. They're awesome to hot rod out with the 32v 4.6 basically a n/a cobra motor. I like the pre 97 ones, the 97-98s have the "Hitler mustache" look.

I agree the 97+ looks a little funky, but I think that overall it appears more flowing and modern than the older one. Also I like the HID headlights and the neon rear panel... just too cool for school.

Right now ive pretty much dwindled my choices down to a couple separate categories:

Under 10k Category
1997-98 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC
1995-98 BMW 3 Series

Under 35k Category
2003 Mercedes E320
2002 BMW X5 4.4i

I think the Mark and 3-series would be your best bets. Theyre proven, durable, and fun.

X5 sounds like no fun at all, you could get a m3 at that price
Or you could look at a nice CTS at that price

Jaguars are selling really cheap especially on eBay.

Knowing your tastes, I get the feeling you will be unhappy with the Mark or the 3 series.....and when you fall out of love with em in short time, you'll be forced to take a hit on the resale (maybe.....I know your track record for buying low and sellin high)
