This will be the most random post I've thrown out in a while....
What's the purpose of the trunk pulldown feature? Don't get me wrong, I think it's a very cool thing. I just don't really understand the purpose of it. Is there some strange historical significance? Enlighten me!

back in the day of huge trunks that had to be slammed to close, it was a feature so that you just lower the trunk and it closes itself. For old people that Caddys were so classified with, it allowed them not to break a hip while close the trunk, and for the Mafia guys, it was an easy alternative when there was 1 too many bodies in the trunk, just get it down, adn the motor will do the rest :)
today though, it really isn't needed, people end up slamming the trunk, which is hell on the motor and stuff... do the new Caddys even use them?
in my '79 DeVille, the motor is not getting power, so I gota kinda slam it so that it locks, as it is down pretty good. But in my '89 Oldsmobile, that dosn't have the power trunk pull down, and yet I can close the trunk so easy, the '93 DeVille has it, and also closes easy....
Just another cool feature for us Caddy guys to point and laugh at other, less significant people that our cars are so much better.... something like that :)
I think after a while all cars have the same features, power door locks, windows, steering, brakes etc. What was once an option is now standard on all cars. I remember when radio, heater and turn signals where optional, but I digress. In the battle of one upmanship, especially in the luxury car market, the makers must come up with more geewiz stuff. Hence the trunk pull down, fender mounted lamp monitors (which I miss), electric tilt wheel vs manual, electrochromatic auto dimming mirrors, etc, etc. Don't get me wrong. I love most of these features. One can only imagine what the future holds.

It's just one of the many cool innovative features that Cadillac had and nobody else did - just like when they came out with the digital climate control.

my grandpa has a 93 park avenue that has the trunk pull down thing. i always thought that it was neat, just couldn't ever remember till mid swing to not slam or drop the lid. definitely a cool thing, just rather useless in my opinion.

I thought that the trunk pulldown was the biggest dip**** option you could get. I mean, for gawd's sake, who can't close the trunk?
Then I got my 94 STS used.
I love that option. Any guy who get's stuff out of his trunk will undoubtedly take as much as he can physically carry without regard to how he's gonna shut the damn trunk. With the pull down, all I have to do is get close and it's a done deal.
I was very disappointed my CTS didn't have that feature..
