I drove my 94 deville 4.9 to a work assignment to Northern Maine, and developed a problem that has me breaking down intermittently.
It engine quits cuts out stalls coughs ans bangs. The codes that come up are: PO41 - no cam reference from Ignition control module Current, and IO34 - Loss of PCM data History.
I did not bring a service manual with me on this trip as a testimonial to how reliable the car has been.
Action taken so far: removed distributor cap and observed a brown/white wire that connects the module on the left that looks like a trigger device, to the plug that the HEI module connects to, was rubbing on the metal plate the the rotor is screwed to. This wire is down to bear copper and was obviously grounding out. I restrained this wire with a small wire tie and covered the bear copper with liquid electrical tape.
I also removed the HEI module and has it tested at an Advance Auto Parts Store. It tested good. They were not able to identify or source the other module, that is the most likley suspect.
I thought I was good to go, but with everything back together the problem still exists. The same codes come up.
I am in the process of looking at salvage yards, but there are not many Cadillacs in Maine.
Does anyone know what this other module is, or have any thoughts on this problem?
I was planning on my 300 mile trip home today, and I do not trust I will make it the way it is running.

Since it was Friday the 13th, I felt like it was my lucky day, so I decided to attempt the trip home. It ended up stalling at speed about 20 time during the 4 hour trip, but I made it, AAA card in hand.
Once home, I looked in Hayes Manual, and it is called Camshaft position sensor "CMP".
I will order one Monday and follow up with a final report once it is installed.

Man that must have been a hell of a ride home. I had to replace mine in my 90 Deville last summer. It is a tight little fit but you can get it with a nutdriver and alot of patience.
