I recommend you to use standalone device like PDA+GPS module or all-in-one. No need to remove dash, no risk of theft (you can take it with you), easily updated software and/or maps (in the case you are using PDA) etc.
With charging from CL and holder it is very reliable solution.

Kenwood sells a direct replacement for the 1998 Cadillac opening. It is NOT inexpensive but will completely update your car to a factory look installation. It will require the replacement of your radio/cd head as well. US price is around $1800 for the radio/cd changer/navigation unit. Add another $500 US for television/DVD player option and another $500 US for satellite radio option.

If i bought the cadillac 2002 system and put it in, wired the antenna etc... would this work?
or was there no option for navigation on this model, and it wont work at all?

No. Someone else tried that, and he reported the cables/connectors were all different. If you find otherwise, let me know as i would love to do what you want to do.

Ouch TexasSeville... Im going to check out some kenwood in-dash nav unit today. Hope it isnt the same one because I want both dvd and satellite options. There's also a Poineer unit at crutchfield, but havent heard how compatible it is. With this Kenwood im checking out its supposed to me able to use the steering wheel controls just fine. Ill let you guys know later.

You might have a chance with an 2001 system as the entertainment system wasn't quite as integrated as it was in 2002. Starting in model year 2002 the stereo did all of its "communication" over the Car's communication bus... before that it was a 50/50 deal (1/2 on the bus 1/2 via direct wiring)... The service manual for '98 does note that CD navigation was available for these cars... but to retrofit you are going to need a complete system with the BCM and wiring harness, etc... expect to take the entire dash apart...

Good Luck

Well I got back. Theres this kenwood they had with i believe 6.8" touch screen. Its not one of those flip up. It stays up. The guy wanted to re-wire the speakers because hes heard of some strange noises doing a direct hook-up. Claims a slight loss of overall total volume. But said there was a mounting kit out for it. $2,500 installed. $200-$250 for a new cd-changer installed... And $150 for satellite radio.. Whew big bucks.. Was thinking maybe just the unit + cd-changer that id find somewhere else cheaper. Then using my old wood kit to try and make it look somewhat stock.
