View Full Version : MP3's and iPods PhD_in_STS 05-12-05, 12:52 PM Hi,
I am picking up my new STS V8 AWD with 1SG and Adaptive Cruise Control in White Diamond on Cashmere this weekend. Can anyone advise if the STS can handle MP3's burned on DVD's? Also, what is the correct method of creating MP3 disks: All files in root directory? Files in artist, then album subfolders?
Has anyone hooked up an iPod to this vehicle yet? I checked ipod2car, and they don't support the 05 model of the STS.
Thanks in advance,

I have not tried mp3s on DVD, so I can't say. The manual for the Nav system gives a pretty good description of folder hierarchy. I use artist folders at the "top" and albums sub-folders below that and tracks in each of those sub-folders.
The unit is supposed to support playlists, but I have not investigated that yet, either.
However I have also made "compilation" CDRs and just used random play; with 4 to 6 hours of music there are very few repeats.
IPOD is much easier, use a mini stereo (1/8 inch) to RCA "Y cable", and connect the IPOD to the RCA jacks in the console, already wired, no adapter needed. Of course, you have to control the Ipod from the Ipod screen, not the AV system. PhD_in_STS 05-12-05, 02:50 PM Thanks for the info! If no one has tried the DVD disk yet, I'll give it a try and report my findings back to this forum. Oakland Raiders 05-12-05, 08:36 PM I remember reading that someone had burned MP3's on to a DVD, but they were unable to play them through Surround Sound Center Point. They were only able to play them in stereo mode in their STS. Normal MP3's are only stereo. You can't make them play through the center speaker. AC3 encoded MP3's will play on 5+ channels on the computer with a special software installed but not in the car. 05STSWOW 05-13-05, 10:03 PM I burned 12 hours of Clapton on a single MP3/CD on my computer and it plays fine on the high end Bose, including random, except it always restarts at 1/1. Next time I'll check the DSP and see about surround. PhD_in_STS 05-28-05, 12:26 PM OK, I tried it - I burned MP3's on a DVD - R, the nav panel reads, "Disk Error." Next, I'll try a DVD +R, but I don't hold much hope for this working either. Jungle George 06-03-05, 03:39 PM I burned a couple of Mp3's discs for my wife, she's got the STS V8 with Nav and Bose 5.1
I found out that it's better to format the disc, then copy the files to a directory in your desktop, then separate all the mp3's any way you want, per genre or artist, etc... then open up the folder in your desktop then copy all and paste them to your cd
Make sure that the cd is in compatible mode (right click on it with your computer and then click make compatible) don_mccarter 06-03-05, 04:59 PM I burned a couple of Mp3's discs for my wife, she's got the STS V8 with Nav and Bose 5.1

I made an MP3 cd with favorite songs from my CD's. I converted them
from the cd and used media monkey to add titles and artist ID tags.
Pressing I while the MP3 is playing displays the ID info.
My only problem has been that sometimes the disc starts from
song 1 and other times it starts where it left off.
There doesn't appear to be and pattern as it might resume where
it stopped for 5 or 6 times and then start on song 1 for the next
several times. | |
