The '97 Saab 9000 CSE 3.0L V6 w/ engine B308I uses a 180degF thermostat as well as the 195degF. This is also the Catera's engine! Can anyone explain why we can't use the Saab's thermostat.., other than because the book says so? Any real reason like.., which other stuff not working?

**thanks**

It'll probably work... the only thing concerning me is the fact that its in FWD setup and there might be a difference somewhere along the line.

Finally got the 180degF thermostat..., but it doesn't fit in the catera's stat housing!! Geeeezzz!! I thought the Saab and Catera's housing would be identical!! Guess not!
Dunno? Maybe I got the wrong stat altogether!!

I wonder if I can drill a couple of holes in the Catera's standard thermostat flange to have it behave less "efficient" than at 195degF?

The thing is that I believe that back pressure on the 195degF stat was what messed up my Heater Control Valve and blew the waterpump seal!! I believe that this car needs a two pronged attack to cool it down! A lower degree themostat and an external oil cooler! One to prevent the pressure buildup on coolant parts and the other to contain the pressure on oil seals! My valve covers & front crank seal are leaking too!
