The other day my 02 escalade started slipping when I would accelerate from a stop. At one stop light the thing wouldnt shift into gear. So I reved the engine to about 3500 rpm and the truck slammed into gear and then I got a loud bang noise. Then the truck was grinding really bad. Any way I took it in for the transmission since its under warranty. The service advisor told me the transmission was fried. What would cause this with a 02 with 39,000 miles?
thanks

I believe the reason is called General Motors Junk. Be thankful you still have a warranty. I have put over 3 Grand in my last G. M. product in the last month and I did all the labor myself. Im going import next time even though alot of my family works for G.M.

P.S. There is a valid reason G.M. stock is now in the Junk catagory. I dont care how much cash they have on hand if you cant build a decent product you dont deserve to be in business.

my trans fried with the same situation as yours. At a light it wouldnt change gears normally then blew. It was under warranty, thank god.

The short answer - 380 lb/tq. The long answer- the Escalade should have come with the Allison transmission.

Where and how much is the Allison Tranny?

The Allison trans probably would not fit in the escalade without some mods, it's huge next to our transmissions, of course anything can be done. Check your fluid level, and change your trans fluid every 20,000 - 25,000 miles, or if it smells burnt, that will help. :)

Iv not had this issue.....yet. however considering how when you ask them to run a diagnostic on things to make sure everything is running OK, etc., and wondering if they actually did it or not
i recently had my parking break spark while using it a few days after i had it in the shop and asked them to run a diagnostic and do routine maintenance?
They had to replace some wiring with very little explanation. <shrug< then a few days later late at night truck wont turn over. Turns out the alternator went out.... prob had something to do with the short i dont know. but wouldn't a diagnostic computer catch that since it was a few days before...... ill post this as a new thread

Knowing about the transmission failures before I even bought my Escalade, I usually change the tranny fluid every 7k miles, for syntetic ATF, I know it mught be a waste, but better safe than sorry....

Just my $.02

Get a clue and take a look at the JD Powers results. Escalade EXT won its class along with a host of other GM products. Sorry you lost your tranny...what are your driving habits like?

Actually I never mentioned it was the trans. The engine spun #7 rod bearing and the rear end lost a carrier bearing. Im sure none of that means anything to you. Go ahead and stick with JD Power and a few years down the road that great G.M. felling will start selfdistructing.
