I have an STS with AWD and ACC. The other day when I had left somebody at a hospital, and was somewhat distracted, I was very pleased to notice that when ACC is on but not set, it still alerts you with the 3 sharp beeps if you get into a risky situation, not only about obstacles in your lane but in the two adjacent lanes. I was a 11-year BMW driver, and think STS owners are lucky to be able to benefit from technology that GM has successfully implemented, while the so-called "sports cars" that the magazines moon and hype about are still dealing in medieval technology, with the excuse that new technologies are just "another gadget." I had to cancel two other makes that I had ordered when both manufacturers informed me, several months apart, that they could not deliver ACC. That situation may have improved in the last six months, but the STS is still eons ahead in new technology. A good feeling. Kudos to GM.

You seemed very pleased with your STS, that's great news. I'm curious, how many miles have you put on it and have you had any problems so far. I've been reading some bad luck stories on this forum and I too have had BMW's for the last 12 years. I would like to buy American this time but I'm worried reliability, trips to the service dept and resale value. The only other American sedan I would consider is the Chrysler 300c, lots of value for 40k.

That technology is available in other vehicles. The only difference is that Cadillac keeps it simple. I-drive with BMW is a pain. Its like a mouse pad, I think it causes to much distraction. The Audi has the same thing, but there is behind the shifter. You imagine trying to work the radio features from behind the shifter. Complete pain. The only interior that I liked when I was test driving was the Lexus GS, but it has this drop down panel under the steering colum to work the options on the car. NIce place to hide it even worse if you actually have to adjust something. You can not do it while driving. I love the STS, everything about it is great. GM did a outstanding job when they put this together. It might not be as light on its feet as the BMW, but I can not remember the time I raced through the mountains or a race track. Real life comparison, the STS rides nicer and accelerates like there is no end to the power range. Plus its a Cadillac, that is enough for me.

The wife was complaining when I bought it, about its a old persons car. I brought it home, and I have still yet to get it back from her. Mine has been fault free.

Bob om NY:

Have had mine since mid November. No problems with it so far. I have the 1SF package but no ACC or HUD. I do not care for the ACC since my experience with it in a friends Lexus. I felt I could not really "drive" the car, expecially in traffic on the interstate. I love the car so far and would not hesitate to purchase one if you can work a good deal.

This is the first time in my young Cadillac observing life that I can honestly say I would take the STS over its next closest technological competitor, the LS430. It really is that good, and alot more exciting. The interior still needs a tad more refinement, but overall its still the better car.

Would some one be so kind as to educate this ignorant old fart as to what exactly ACC stands for? :hmm:

Thanks fellas.

Adaptive Cruise Control. Took me a minute also. :hmm:

Nice to hear about the car, I love what Cadillac is doing. 8 years, two boys are out of college, and I'm driving an STS-V. :sneaky:

So the ACC senses obstacles in your path and adjusts the speed? Does the adjusted speed become permanent or does it accelerate to the originally set speed?

Those of you who are experienced with this feature, how do you like it?
Does it work well for you?

It takes a little getting used to, but it is a super option once you get a feel for how it works!

 STS-4 with everything but ACC. I have 10,000 plus miles since taking delivery in November and the car is just awesome !.. Easy , crisp interior styling with all of the gizmo's one can muster and easy to understand. Voice recognition get's better with practice ( be patient ) and boy is the STS good looking !

For all of you reading this fourm to learn about the new Cadillac's dependibility allow me to make you feel comfortable about buying one.. In addition to my STS-4 that has been damn near Perfect, my wife drives an '04 SRX V8 with 23,000 miles, No Problems ! I sold my brother my '04 CTS so I could get the new STS . He now has 35,000 miles- Perfect. No Problems. Two of my co-workers and three friends all purchased SRX's/CTS's and all of them have had NO PROBLEMS. ALl of them have commented on how relible the Cadillac's are and they all said with great enthusiasm that the Cadillac's they purchased are the best cars they ever owned. I say the same thing.

I have an STS loaded with everything but AWD. They say the more extra gadgets you get, the more likely the problems. I have had the car since early December and have no complaints thus far. IMHO ACC is something you have to experience to appreciate. It doesn’t work as I thought it would before getting it. It’s much better. I’m amazed at how sophisticated this system is. I use it a lot – even in town.

It adjusts your speed to keep a minimum distance (which you set) between you and any other cars. When the car gets out of the way, the car goes back to the speed you had set. Perfect for highway driving, don't have to keep turning the cruise on and off because people are blocking the lane....

Definitely an option I will be looking for in future purchases.
Thanks for the info guys!
