Looking at a new set of wheels...either 20 or 22's for my 03 escalade
Whats the ride difference, will the 22's wear out front end parts quicker than the 20's?

How much tire life is there with normal driving in both sets?

I love my 22's but they are a little more dificult to handle then stock. You have to keep control over them especially when going over bumps in the road. But as in life there's always a trade off :( My suspension people over inflate them a tad which makes the ride not so spongy. As far as wear they wear as good as my Michelin's that I have on my Landcruiser IMO. I hope this helps in your decsion.
Peace :)

I was speaking to one person which stated that it (22s) were weraing out his frontend premauturely..not sure of what/// Balljoints?

Is this a normal problem? would it be a issue with 20" wheels/tires?

I was concerned about ride comfort when I got my wheels.

Got 22's instead of 24's because I wanted a more rubber.
With 22's you can go with higher profile tires (305/45/R22)
to make ride little softer. My wheels are 22 x 10 and
required a little cutting out in the wheel wells. Narrower
wheels (and lighter) will get you closer to the stock ride.

Ridewise you definitely feel their weight. The steering is
more precise as on any car with wider tires. Extra rubber
on the road improves braking performance. Haven't really
it's a compromise, but you can't beat the look. Can't
comment on wear yet.

anything heavier/wider/taller will wear out the front end faster (ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, possibly tie rods). how much heavier/wider/taller the wheels are affects how much faster the components wear compared to stock.

slimm44 do your big tires make the same affect that 24's do? I have been to the dealershp just recently to replace all the items above that you just mentioned but I am wondering if the same items would wear out if I raised my lade and put big tires.

big tires like my 40's are even worse for wearing them out. all that rubber is really heavy and the extra track width from the backspacing is pretty bad too. 40's are pretty extreme for a 1/2 ton SUV and most people wouldn't recommend it. oh, and i forgot about wheel bearings, they'll get worn out (and break in my case) too.

I had 20's on my '02 escalade. Now on my '05 I have 24's and I have it dropped with the McGaughys 2/3 drop. I can honestly say it rides as good if not better than the 20's did. I don't know if it was the Toyo's I had with the 20's but that truck was all over the road, especially asphalt highways that had ruts worn in from the heavy truck traffic. Now with the 24's (Hankook rubber) the truck does'nt wander anywhere. And I have definitely hit potholes, I live in Long Island, NY, and it has felt fine. They definitely rub a little when I am manuevering in and out of tight spots, but it's not a big deal.

I thank most of the guys here for convincing me to get the 24's, anything smaller and I would have regretted it.

Oh and as far as wearing out front end parts, 58,000 on the Giovanna/Toyo 20's and no front end work needed. Give me a year or two and I'll get back to you on the 24's
