I've had my 99 Cat for about 18 months now. Never had any problems with it until recently. First off, let me say that I had no idea for the history of this car before I bought it. This past week my battery went dead. I go to Walmart to get a new one, seemed simple enough. They don't have it in stock. Ok, so I go to a smaller local place called Lee Auto parts. They have one in stock and it was $99?!?!? I start talking to the guy for a bit and find out that almost everything on this car is outragiuously expensive. I'm sure all you guys know this already just by reading past posts of all the problems with this car. He basically told me that I'll need a part time job to pay for all the repairs that will have to be done if anything goes wrong. I've looked on this forum and several other car review site and fine nothing but bad reviews and warnings of not to buy this car. As you can imagine this has me very freaked out right now. Is this all true? Am I getting ripped off on the battery?

Depends, you might be. Try other places. Sears is a good source and Diehard is a good brand (what they sell).Vary your options and find the best price.

All cars do have some sort of problems. Catera happens to have some problems as well, and not too many people knows what to do with it. This is why we have our chances to enjoy a higher class car at a reasonable price. If you are an average mechanic you should be able to solve most of your problems by consulting too many good people on this site. :)
