I am. I'll just play stupid if the police pull me over.

I agree. It looks better without the front plates.

I haven't used the front plate on my 2000 STS in the two years I've owned it. It looks better without one!

Not sure about other states but I suspect they have similar laws. In CA it is mandatory to display both front and rear plates in the prescribed locations with the rear being illuminated of course. If you are pulled over here the officer will likely issue a 'fix-it' ticket which requires an inspection and sign off in a limited amount of time. If it is not taken care of then fines or other penalties are institued.

There are still a lot of folks who remove or never install the fronts here or use a decorative plate with the name of their car like 'Corvette', some get away with it for a while, some for a long time. There may even be someone who has been lucky enough to never have been called on it but that is rare.

You should check your vehichle code there to see what to expect.

Front plates aren't required in SC so I assumed I wouldn't have a bracket when I ordered the car. I didn't even notice when I picked up my car and it wasn't until I got home that I saw that there was a front plate bracket installed with a dealer's advertising tag on it. I wasn't happy to say the least and called the dealer immediately. Why would someone drill four holes in the bumber when it's not necessary? Anyway, my dealer was very nice about it and I'm taking it in Friday to get the holes filled and painted.

I live in California as well and yes, it is mandatory to have a front license plate. I believe this is because we have many intersections around busy parts of the cities that have cameras to catch people who run red lights. The front license plate lets the authorities know who you are. I owned a Corvette, Firebird, and now an STS and I've never put the front plate on any of those cars. I've never been pulled over for the infraction or received a ticket while my vehicle was parked at a meter. I like to live dangerously!

Jerry, I also live in Minnesota and have an anniversary Corvette and a 2005 STS. I can tell you that I have been pulled over four times, as it is the law here, take you chances, I agree it does look better. I was pulled over in the Vette two times and finally ticketed and had to prove the plate was on. I ran for three months on the Cadillac and was finally pulled over also two times I had 48 hours to prove by a signed police officer statement that the plate was on. It is up to you, personnaly I do not want any reason for any one to pull me over and I now comply.

Both instances were in the Minneaplis area. One in Coon Rapids and the other in St. Paul

Good luck

I also live in CA, and I like to live dangerously too, that is why i had mine installed so while i am living dangerously I don't have to worry about being pulled over for that and they find something more serious....hmm just a thought

If you have stuff to hide....like "stuff" in the car.....then drive with both plates, don't tint the windows....don't give the police a reason to pull you over.

Otherwise I think its worth the risk on some cars....I was a the dealership the other day and half of the pre-owned cars didn't have front plate brackets/holes. (California) The salesman said many folks just take the chance.
