This may be a really dumb/easy question... I hope so. I am on a wireless connectiion on my laptop in my dead '97 ETC right this second in the parking lot of my work. I think I need a new battery. Walked over to WalMart and got one. Now the question. I have never removed the battery in my Eldo before. The positive and negative wires seem to be attached to the posts of the battery with a death grip via what I'll call a rubber female connecter that wraps TIGHTLY around the post. How do I get these suckers off the battery? Do I just use a ratchet and remove the post with the rubber thing still gripping it? (Note this would seem to put a real strain on the wire as it would have to twist around and around along with the post as it unscrews. I'm afraid to just dig in with a screw driver and pry the rubber free from the post. Don't want to do a dumb thing and damage the fittings. PLEASE reply. Running out of daylight. Thanks in advance.
Note: My car died on me two nights ago and when I went to jump it, the positive post was VERY hot. I successfully jumped the car then. Now, jump won't work. Back to the original question, I'm thinking that when the post got so hot it may have fused the metal coupling (under the rubber boot) to the post? Possible?
