I figured there would be a forum out there so I googled a bit and voila...here I am.

Yesterday I bought an STS. Blue Chip, gray interior, 1SB, and Premium Upgrade package. It's only been a day but so far, the car is light years better than the 300M I was driving.

I think I have all the features and presets done but is there a way to keep the lights in automatic yet get rid of the parking lights on warning or disable the daytime running lamps while keeping the lights in automatic? The only thing I can find in the manual is to toggle the light switch from auto to off. This turns off the daytime running lights and also eliminates the parking lights on display but it also turns off the automatic lights feature. Also, the manual says that when I'm in daytime running lights mod, only the turn signal indicator lamps are lit yet my dash shows the "parking lights on" icon. Am I missing something here?

Thanks

Never mind! I probably should have done a search before I asked the above question. I did one and someone had a post with the answer. Turns out that if you put the wiper switch in rain sensing mode the parking lamps will stay lit during the day. I turned the wiper switch to off and my "parking lamps on" icon went away. Seems kinda dumb to me. I though rain sensing wipers would be a set it and forget routine but it's not. I guess if it looks like rain I'll have to flip from off to the rain sensing mode unless I want my parking lights on during the day while driving.

I have always wondered the same exact thing. When I had my 2001 STS I was dumbfounded you could just not leave the stalk in the auto position. Kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion. Im pretty sure my 330i had the ability to just leave them on.

It is not your parking lamps that are coming on when you turn on your wipers, it is your headlights. It is the law here in Missouri and in several other states that you have your headlights on whenever it is raining and your wipers are on.

This feature of the headlights coming on when the wiper is in any of its on positions including the automatic rainsense position is a problem especially when it is not raining, because at the time that the headlights go on, the dashboard lights go into night mode and unless you have your dimmer switch all the way on, the dials lights go very dim and can't be read easily. This is especially a problem because with the wiper control coming from the steering wheel, it is easy to accidently switch it to automatic and it is hard to detect that it is on unless you specifically look. So, in summary if the switch goes into rainsense accidently when it is not raining, the net effect besides the headlights going on is that the dashboard lights go dim in broad daylight.

Cadillac ought to at least unlink the dashboard lights with the headlights that come on caused by the windshield switch being on. At best, the wiper switch ought to be reconfigured so that it can't accidently be turned on.
