The actual contacts inside the ignition switch may be dirty. In that case I would try to clean the contacts and try to start the car again. addison_ii 04-30-05, 11:28 PM I forgot to mention about checking for possible codes. Also check your battery and cables. Try unhooking the battery to see if that helps. cadillactmac 06-22-05, 01:03 PM Dear Sir; Hello, my name is Theron. I live in Las Vegas, NV. I am a proud owner of a 90' Caddy Eldo Brtz with the custom pckg, the works. It has now been sitting in my drive way for about three months now because the contacts are either worn too much to read any of my keys or it is just faulty. Every dam time I try to start it the starting is disabled appears then it says to take the key out and wait three long minutes. I am so sick of seeing this apear and having to wait three minutes each time. It used to start here and there, but now it won't start at all, and hasn't for quite some time. I have called multiple mech's here in twn but they won't or can't fix it, they all say that it must go to the dealer to get the contacts replaced and reprogrammed. Well that would be nice but it only costs $2000.00 here in Vegas to get this done. Everytime I talk to a mechanic about this they talk in another language about what could be the problem. This is the second place I've found where you'all know what the hell your talking about. So I really need some help or just cough up 2grand. Hell I only paid 2500 for the car, why would I want to pay 2k for a contact in the dam ignition!!? I have made contact with a freelance mechanic who knows the problem and said he would come by and dis-connect the security or something, I don't know what he was going to do, anyway I lost contact with him, and he never did come to fix my poor sick Caddy. I really miss my car and going places in it. Now I'm driving a Mazda 626 and I just might drive it off into the grand canyon if I cannot find an affordable solution on what I feel is an easy fix, but I don't know how, or I would do it myself. Please Help me!! Sincerely Theron Mac Randall Please help me, . .. . please. brougham 06-22-05, 08:18 PM Try doing a search for this. There are a lot of posts that say how to fix it. mastertech 07-03-05, 01:28 AM Whoever is charging 2000.00 for that repair should be tortured slowly with a pickle fork and a pocket torch. I repair one of these at least once a month, runs about 380.00. Usually what happens is the two small wires that run from the ignition cylinder to C200 get brittle and break from starting the car so many times(they move with the cylinder). Very easy job. Contact me if you need any help. Seviller 08-19-05, 03:18 AM I am having the same problem, starting disabled, and would like to tackle the job myself. Is this a job for a shade tree mechanic? Hobnail 08-28-05, 01:24 AM I just repaired my 97 Eldorado starting problem today. I choose to insert a resistor that matches the pellet value in my key. You can go to Radio Shack and purchase an inexpensive volt ohm meter and use it to measure your key pellet. Then purchase a resistor that matches the value. Use a 1/4 watt fixed resistor or if you cannot find the exact value then purchase a variable resistor trim pot and adjust it to match your key pellet value. I used a 10 turn trim pot adjusted to a 2.33 kilo ohm value. Someone at the store should be able to help you with this. You will need to remove the cover under the steering column. Mine has a decor cover with a metal cover under it. Once you have all of that out of the way, :worship: locate the large multi-pin connector next to the column. Locate the 2 wire orange wire harness which should be in positions 12 and 13; they are the last two on that row. Positions 10 and 11 were empty on my wiring. Cut the orange wire harness about 3 inches from the large connector. Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends and solder or crimp the reistor so that it bridges between positions 12 and 13 on the large connector. The resistor should now be the only connection between 12 and 13, do not re-connect the wiring that goes to the ignition key switch. The engine should now start when you turn the key. Insulate and tie wrap the resistor. I tie wraped the resistor to some of the other wires to keep it from flopping around. Your anit-theft system will no longer function but at least the engine will start.:D Good Luck! | |
