I got a car witht eh Gold Key Package, but I can't see what the difference is with a 'regular' caddy.

Yes I have gold plated door and ignition keys....but is there more?

I think it was standard with more "exclusive" Cadillacs. When Dad bought the Fleetwood new it came with 2 sets of gold keys. One set still has never been used and I'm keeping them mint for the next owner. ;)

I don't think Cadillac does that anymore and that's too bad because it was sort of like a brand trademark.

I still have my owner's priviliges brochure and it says: upon delivery you will receive a set of 23K gold plated keys, an eloquently understated appointment that has become a hallmark of Cadillac style. I still have my gold keys but they have become worn and faded after 11 years and 183,000 miles. There was also a gold plated key fob with the caddy crest on it(I guess the original owner didn't give it to the next owner). Just Cadillac's way of telling you that you bought one most luxurious cars on the planet.
I thought about getting the regular chrome keys and having them gold plated.

It was just a gimick. I think it was supposed to include a full tank of gas too.

Also included 1 regular spare silver key for the doors & ignition. Was to also include a "get aquanted with your Cadillac" test drive accompanied with your salesman, and as mentioned, the full tank of gas, and the gift kit, which included a get acquainted video, specific to your model, the plastic key/credit card for wallet, and it seems that some people also recieved a Cadillac umbrella. I did not.

You must be able to purchase gold key sets from the dealer???? I bought my 93 SD used with two sets of gold keys and no regular ones!?!

A ha!

I think my car came with a cassette tape "Familiarize Yourself with your car" type thing.

So you had to pay extra for it ofcourse? (not standard on all caddies)

Gold keys are hard to find, even at a dealer as evidenced by this thread.

As I recall, the dealer cannot even order the gold keys. The gold keys came in the manual pack along with the video. They came un-cut from the factory, that's why you also got a set of the normal silver keys (they were the ones used prior to delivery).

No you didn't get a set of silver keys. You got 1 square head ignition/door key that was cut. The Gold keys were cut when I recieved them, so I don't know who did the cutting....coulda been the dealership.

Since we bought so many at a time, we got our cars in and did the PDI's ourselves. Hence, we received the cars as they come from the factory. The interiors all covered in plastic wrap, and the mats and owner's package in a bag in the trunk. Inside the owner's pack was a set of "un-cut" gold keys and the RKE remotes. In the ignition of the cars was usually one full set of keys, sometimes an extra key or two as well.
If you received nothing but Gold Keys, then the dealership kept your keys or tossed them, but they WERE shipped with the car.

They usually cost about 18-20 bucks.

Thats it? Cool I better get it done before I lose my one and only key....

I'm guessing you don't need to 'reprogram' or whatever the original key?

I was told they were about $100 for a chip key (you might be right though)...mines the first Gen.

A silver set also came with my car.

According to my manual, the dealer removes the plugs from the keys so you have the code and know what type of key to order. It also says if you lose the keys, you'll be able to have new ones made "easily."

When I got the keys made for my SLS and Bonneville, they just made the keys for me and I didn't have to program it or anything. On my Bonneville I knew the keycode and resistor value but, on my SLS I just had them copy my original keys.

I just spoke with my dealer, and was quoted approx ~$58 for a set (one door, one ignition). The ignition key only was ~$53, and the door was ~$4.

They code the chip based on code information provided by GM using your VIN#. GM lists what code your VIN# was given, and the dealer uses that.

If you're going to be charged ~$100 for the key, shop around!

Try this guy. http://www.inkweb.com/mlk/contact.html (marcs lock and key). He has an ebay site also. I purchased a resistor pellet (vats) key from him for $6 (nickel, not gold) when the dealers wanted something like $35. Got it cut at ACE for $1.29 Ace wanted $18 for the key.

When I bought my Fleetwood the owner gave me the only set of keys he had, silver ones with the GM logo on them. On ebay I bought two sets of gold uncut keys. I cut one set at a Home Depot and kept the other two uncut. Savin' them for another Caddy.
