Thanks mechanix 04-24-05, 06:30 PM Some things that I found helpful in changing out the alternator in the car are: a) removing the alternator access plate on the bottom of the car, over on the right side below the alt. It's approx. a 3" X 4" plate that is held in with a couple of bolts, I think; b) spin the nut off the front of the alternator with an impact and remove the pulley and cooling fan prior to dropping the alternator out the bottom of the car; and c) as a last resort you can remove the two front motor mount nuts and jack up the engine some to help facilitate removal of the alternator out the bottom. There is no way it will come out the top without removing a ton of brackets and hardware. It has to be taken out from below. Good luck! :) STSMAN 04-28-05, 12:28 AM I have a 1998 STS. Is the removal the same? I didn't see a plate, but I wasn't looking for one either. I 'll have another look. Any help would be great. Thanks Gary maydog 04-30-05, 08:12 PM Sorry to say that the 1998 is much more of a pain to remove the alternator. There is no access panel. I pulled the alternator out of the ol aurora where the air box is if that gives you an idea. I assume the newer sevilles are similar. donclericuzio 09-27-05, 06:29 PM Where is the ignition circuit located? My 95 STS, My car will start sometimes and then it will go on like a 2-3 day thing where it wont start, then it will fire right up, then ill drive it somewhere and it wont start, and be stranded. I replaced the battery and the cleaned the cabels real good. You wouldnt think that it would be the starter since it works whenever it wants to. Im leaning towards the alternator, because BestBuy hooked my whole system up to my alternator rather than my battery. I tore apart my ignition switch a while back and just redid the wiring so i know its not that. Im thinkn it has something to do with my car system though. I have that whole gas gauge thing too, how to fix?? | |
