I don't know what they are, but I'd like to find out.
Yesterday I needed to transport a large item that hung out the back of the DTS. There was no obvious way to tie the decklid down. So, I tied some string to this plastic thing on the right corner of the decklid - right at the 90 degree angle where the vertical portion of the lid meets the horizontal portion. It's riveted to the lid. There's one of these things on each side of the decklid and a corresponding plastic thing attached to the body of the car. When you close the lid these things somehow interact with the parts attached to the body. The part attached to the decklid has a little spring in it and a knob-looking thing slides up-n-down in a litte track. They almost look like latches, but since there's no release mechanism that's not what they are. There's nothing electrical about them.
So, by the time I got home this thing was demolished. There's no mention of them in the factory service manual. What are they? Doesn't seem to really affect the operation of the decklid.
