I know, I rarely post here, but...

Ever since I got the car, I have been having that annoying problem that when i close the trunk, the license plate just slams on to the car. Not only can it probably damage the paint, but it the noise does get really annoying.

My solution:

I had some spare dynamat extreme lying around from my old car... cut off a piece the size of the tag, heated it up with a blow dryer, placed it on the tag, and used a roller to flatten it out a little.

The result, now instead of an annoying sound that repeats like 3 times, I hear nothing (except for the normal noise of the trunk closing)

Why didn't cadillac put some mounting holes in the bottom too?

Has anyone else had that problem or just me? This is my daily driver car for work. Since I work mainly on the streets because I do alot of house calls (I fix computers, relax) my trunk is constantly being opened and closed. The noise was getting on my last nerve.

I have the same problem and wondered why they didn't put in bottom mounting holes. What is dynamat extreme?

Everycar Ive ever had has had 4 mounting holes for the plate... weird.

Dynamat is a high density material used to reduce or completely eliminate vibrations caused by high powered audio systems.... or noisy license plates :D

which is exactly why I needed to buy a bulk pack.

in my old truck I kind of went overboard on my system. so I needed to spend quite a bit of money on it.

the bulk pack was like $250.

you can get a license plate frame kit for like $30ish

Mine rattled because of the frame the dealer put on it. I took the frame off. The bare plate does not rattle.

I think I've come up with a nice looking setup -- I found a chrome frame at Pep Boys and installed it; and of course quickly realized that the bottom was going to rattle and probably scratch the paint, just like the plate alone was doing. I took two nylon license-plate screw-and-nut combinations and secured them in the lower license plate holes (through the chrome frame lugs lying underneath the plate) with the nylon nuts on the back side. Then I ground down the protruding threaded part of the screw, as well as part of the thickness of the nut, until it was just thick enough to keep both the plate and the frame off the paint. The nylon now acts as a spacer that keeps the assembly resting against the paint only on the smooth nylon, with all metal off the painted surface, and no rattle. The natural-colored (whitish color) nylon blends in with Texas's current white-colored plates -- obviously the screw heads would be more noticeable against a dark-colored plate, but I think still very unobtrusive. Sorry for no pic (maybe I'll figure out how to upload one some day).
