My Seville just turned off on me at a stoplight the other day. The DIC said "Service Now, Consult Owner's Manual". The "Engine Control System" light was on. The car would not restart. The manual says when the "Engine Control System" light comes on that there is a potential problem with the Emission Control System on the vehicle.

The car has had a high idle now for a while. I drive the car between 1000 and 2000 miles a year. I just had the car worked on for 2500.00 (brakes, oil leak, etc.). I had the high idle checked out at that time. The mechanic told me that I needed a new Idle Control Motor and since I drive my car so few miles a year that I may get away without having it replaced. He did say that if I did not replace this Idle Control Motor that it would cause extra wear and tear for the transmission.

I ran the codes on the ECC/DIC. They are as follows: E012 Current, E053 History, No BCM Codes, ECM? .

I have been looking all over this site now and can find lots of info. on codes but nothing that seems to match mine. If anyone could offer their help in this situation I would be very greatful. The car will be towed off to the repairman tomorow and I will keep you all posted as to what I find out.

Thanks for any/ all your help,

From the following codes, it looks like there is a problem with the distributor. Check to make sure no wires have come unhook from the distributor. Had this happen once.

E12 - No Distributor Signal
E53 - Distributor Signal Interrupt

I had my car looked at by a very reliable source here in Vancouver and they informed me that the faliure was due to a faulty "Ignition Control Modual". The part cost 500.00 dollars CAD. Plus labor and the towing. I pick it up this morning. Thanks for the 1 reply that I received.
