1. Advance your timing 2-3 degrees as long as it doesn't ping.

2. Install an aftermarket free flowing muffler. I installed a flowmaster delta flow model 50 because it is a quiet muffler.

3. New A/C Delco platinum spark plugs

A K&N filter probably won't help power. It could even decrease power and cause more wear on the engine due to it's much less effective filteration capability. There are actual tests to prove this.

To get any gain from a K&N air filter, then yes, you have to do the intake like mine. It is an open element air induction system, and it helps if done like I have it. Since those pictures I have done things differently and there is an actual heat sheild to help things out. A drop in air filter will do nothing for these cars.

My Caddy has the Camaro 80 series flowmaster, which is quite loud. I've also done some things with that cat. converter, but I honestly thing that keeping the stock cat. will do just fine. Or you can opt for a high flow cat. converter.

Timing is huge. Edahall says 2-3, I say 3-4. Try this: advance timing until yiou hear the ping. Basicaly put, the timing advace will help anywhere from 2-4 degrees BTDC. There is also a certain procedure to follow for these cars to advance timing.

Upgrading the entire ignition system will help. You don't have to use the MSD like I have, but new wires, cap, rotor, module (aftermarket), coil, and plugs will help quite a bit. The MSD ignition helps a lot too in my opinion, but I wouldn't waste the money on it right now.

The other things I've done provide minimal gains at best and are probably not worth the money unless you get all of them at once.

If you do the four main things mentioned (timing, ignition, air intake, exhaust) the cost will be in anyone's range:

$75.00 for the muffler, another $50.00 for dual outlet hardware,
$40.00 for the air filter, another $20.00 for the hardware to make an open element air induction system,
close to $150.00 for all of the ignition components, and I would also suggest AC-Delco plugs on this one,
And the timing advance is free. Forget chipping the car for now unless you want to top speed the car 5 miles more than the limiter will provide.

Another thing is that I would go for MSD wires as the Accel are too high in resistance.

the blue paintjob is sweet. think of doing anything to that grill? not getting a new one, just make it look more refined you know?

Hey I am going to advance the timing with a buddy of mine, but you said there is a certain procedure to do this. What is it?
