Well I am home from my first trip to the track for some 1/4 mile fun.
I got in a run but while I was letting her cool down before the next run it started raining. It ended up raining out so I get to go back Friday for free..:bouncy:
It wasn't what I was hoping for but the take off sucked. I didn't ride the clutch long enough and had some wheel hop. I hope to do better on Friday, so Anyway to the slip.........

I have a video of the run and you can here some hop off the line and then on the first to second shift, second to third and third to fourth you just hear a good chirp..:burn:
If someone wants to host the video I can e-mail it to you, it is a 15 second video..

What were you up against? A Kia Spectra? How busy was it? I was thinking about showing up last night. I might go Friday. How much tread do you need to be allowed on the track, because at 19,000 miles on the original F1s, ummm, I don't have much left.

HDMLNIUM

Thanks guys, I am rusty with a standard shift..lol
I have been driving trucks and Suv's for the last 10 years or so and all but one have been automatics. I use to be pretty good grabing gears In my younger days but she will come back to me with some practice. Just need to ride the clutch a little more and get that wheel hop down a bit.
You should go Friday, it is going to be in the 50's I think..
It wasn't too busy for being opening day, they had 4 lanes going and a handful of bikes. As long as your tires aren't bald you should be fine, you need to have tread all the way accross.
If you go on Friday, we can get you on video..
Better yet, we can get us going up against each other on video and have it posted here for some bragging rights. You want to try me now while I am still rusty and before the mods start coming. Because in about a month your chances of taking me are going to be getting less and less and you will be getting spanked...:histeric::2thumbs:
It is kinda like me trying you on a road course, me not getting close enough to sniff your tailpipes and all. I love the 1/4 mile and feel right at home there, just need some practice driving a stick after all these years and it will be a blast. I will try the road course thing with you new England guys sometime, after all fair is fair...

KOOL!

Well, you weren't too far off your 50s you wanted. 'Specially for only one pass.

Sounded like your shifting was good, but maybe next time you could have the camera in the pits......as this seemed way too close.....LOL!!!

Bill,
Way to go man! That's a real good ET time considering the lack of stick time. A little practice and you're definitely in the low 13's. It won't take a whole lot of mods to get into the 12's.

How are you gonna know? I doubt I'll be allowed on the track with as little tread depth as I've got. Plus, I'm going to Manhattan today, leaving at noon. I probably can't get up there until 8PM, at the earliest.:(

thebigjimslow,
If you can't make it tonight that's cool, I need some practice anyway.;)
Have fun in Manhattan and we could do it another time. 19k on the stock tires sounds pretty good, I thought everyone was getting a lot less than that. Or maybe you drive like an old lady and that is why you are closing in on 20k on them.:histeric:
Either way, I figured you wouldn't show up since there were going to be a couple cameras going tonight. After all, how would you live it down on the board getting beat by a rookie on the forum??:hitstick: :kick: :tease:
Anyway, get some new skins on that Raven Black V and show me how it is done..:2thumbs:

All in fun Brother....:shhh:You, my friend, are an assclown:yup:

In my life I have performed maybe 9 runs at the strip, all in the SHO. So who's the rookie? I still want to go but can I still run that late?

HDMLNIUM
04-22-05, 12:59 PM
assclown:hmm: come on now, just trying to get you to come that's all.
After all, you dish it out pretty good your self..:banghead2
8 pm isn't too late, the gates open at 5, racing starts at 6 and goes until 10.
You would be showing up about half way through, still should get 2 runs in.
I may not be a rookie at the 1/4 mile, but with this car and a standard I am. After all you have had over 19k miles behind the seat of yours. I haven't raced a standard since 94 when I put away my MR2 Turbo. Not trying to make excuses just stating that I am rusty with the grabing gears and very much so on launching with a stick. I hope you do come, I love racing, win, lose, it is still fun as hell. I won't lie to you though, I would much rather win..;)
Remember, it's all in fun.. I really am a nice guy..

I prefer to street race that way I can lie about my wins and losses. I'm a better bullshiter than racer. My guess is that I would blow my first 2 or 3 runs just from over rev-ing and not hooking properly. It would most likely take me all night to get one run I was happy with. Bill thanks for posting honest times and honest results.

Now for my story. Ran stop light to stop light with a new C6. He had nitrous and drag radials and I smoked him everytime. I launched in 2 gear to avoid spin and hop and never rev'd over 4,000 rpms. Beat that!

Assclown is an endearing term...really.

Sorry, but I ain't a makin' it. I picked up my client at noon and was in NY by 2:40. All was going well until I got to the Bronx. Over 3 hours and a few hundred expletives later, I get out of that sh@t-filled hell hole of a city. I-95 and the Merritt had 25+ mile backups.

So being the brilliant navigator, I hop onto I-684. And here I am....sitting stopped in bumper to bumper in Waterbury on I-84. If traffic cleared right now, I may get home by 10:30.

I hope YOU have fun.

thebigjimsho

BTW, I let the expletives go AFTER dropping off the client.

I'll be hitting the track for the first time May 1st. Hope to see if the Maggie and judicious throttle control can get me into the 12's :)

Wild, If you can't pull 11's with the maggie I can't see forking over 6 grand. For what. If you pull out like an old man with a 3.0 60 foot time you should still do a 12 second run.

Keep in mind air is thinner at higher elevation (less dense) even with a maggie, might be harder than you think where you are (as with Denver as well).

Come down here with that beast.

Ben -

You have that right...but we'll see. I'll probably cheat and ice her down too :)

Wheel hop is a killer stock...and since it has strangely come back since the F1's went back on, I MUST put the GSD3's in place before going.

I'll be there for fun, not to set records or break my car - she wasn't meant to be a drag queen :yup:

The track is new, located in Fernley Nevada about 35 miles East of Reno. In fact, there is a road course there as well (I didn't even know about it) and I plan to attend a 2 day driving school this summer.

Back from the track already, made two disappointing runs and don't plan on going back until the wheelhop kit from Doug comes in.

It sucks because I can launch her pretty decent on the street riding the clutch out from 2500-3000 with no wheel hop. Well 4 out of 5 times I don't see any wheel hop. Now at the track with the 3 runs I have in now all had wheel hop so I let off a little to get her under control and there goes the 60' time to hell. I wish I wasn't so damn worried about this rear end coming apart, it would make it so much more fun.
My first run was another 13.6 and the second was a 13.8 Damn wheel hop.
I will get my slips out and post them and then take a peek at the videos to see what they look like. Then I will send them to Rick and Reed to get posted.
Sorry for not doing better, but next time I go back should be a different story.

At my track a .50 is a perfect light, and I have a few under my belt. But those were all in automatics and I am just trying to get this thing out of the hole without it breaking for now. The .5X's will come in time with some practice with this car, until I can 60' under a 2.0 I don't care about reaction time...

I know your hesitation, anything near wheel hop and I back off. After all the engine work, I need a capital infusion before I can feel safe about letting the rear go. I think you are doing the prudent thing by waiting till your rear is beefed up.:yup:

wildwhl
04-22-05, 10:38 PM
Yeah, don't blow the rear just trying to hit a number at the strip. Not worth it in my opinion.

2.1 not too bad?

Should be good for a 13.3ish run no?

How come you have a 108mph run on the slower time with the 2.3 60 ft?

Shoudnt that be the other way around?

No doubt the wheel hop is killing the times! Also the track is stickier than the street thats why you are hopping more at the track than your street launches.
Overall, respectable runs! Nice!
Even if you had some wheel spin without the hop the car will launch faster and you should make up times on the shifts also. I'm sure your hoppin in in the 1-2 shift and slightly in the 2-3 shift.
How did GM pull 13.1 in this car stock? They did not wheel hop? We've been had!
That rustang had you out of the hole by a few car lengths, it was nice to see you reel him in!
I can't wait to see the run with the wheel hop kit from CTSV05. Keep us informed.
