I am interested in removing my air pump. I am in the process of either replacing the chk valves on both sides of the car or just removing the lines period. I feel in a few weeks I am gonna get rid of my existing factory cat to put a aftermarket hi flow cat and it doesnt use that line that returns to the air pump. So I was gonna remove it but forgot the drawbacks of not having it. Does anyone know what the drawbacks are or the pluses to having it? Does it control anything else in the car?
I am getting old and I forgot

Unless you really hate air pumps sooooo much then leave it. The air pump introduces additional air to the exhaust to promote more complete combustion. Without this, the catalytic convertor has more work to do. Your O2 sensor will thank you too.
The air pump really does not use enough power from the engine to make any difference in performance. The only real drawback to the pump is that it could freeze up someday.
They say pumps aren't rebuildable, but they are... Mine was locked up from sitting, tore it down and cleaned it up.
Pretty much as the Ape said. I removed mine, no problems. You might fail emissions if you have it. Might.... If no visual likely no, the 307's were very clean runners. Typically they only divert air at idle and at WOT. Not always at cruise, it isn't needed then. And at WOT, I doubt it really can do enough anyway.
But the engine is quieter with it gone, and easier to work on, and that is what I was after.... I also had a 350 Olds in there with 77 3A heads.... no provisions....
Just get some brass plugs and plug up the heads and the ECM will never know.
