: [SPOILER] Cadillac at Road Atlanta!!

Great Race!! Papis won! The other two Cadillacs were 2nd and 3rd.

Porshes couldn't keep up with the Cads in traffic. First Porshe took himself out in traffic when he was trying to maintain momentum. The other tried to block Papis on the last lap, the right front end of the V proved to be stronger than the Porshe. Porshe ended up into the wall.

Cadillac proved that low end power and torque wins races.

Anyone know where you can get a race schedule?

It was on speed channel at 1pm EST. I taped it on VHS. I'll try to get it put on a DVD and talk to admin about uploading it provided it is legal to do so. Or maybe Reed or Sal can switch it over and put it on their site. Any suggestions?

Yeah, someone make copies in DVD format and sell them with shipping included for $5.

Do I get a 25% cut for coming up with the idea??? :devillaug (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=privatemessage#)

I was just thinking of sending it to one of the administrators so they can edit/post it on their board. I think Cadillacfaq might be a good place with the other videos. I rather that everyone have a chance to watch their type of car sweep a race, than to make a few $$ off it.

To uplaod then download a race will not ba an option I wiouldn't think, for memory reasons. If thatt is posible then do that and then for us that want our own copies...you could sell them to us.

I didn't see the race. Was it live?

Can someone tape it and put the race on the video forum of Cadillacfaq? Edit out the commercials and it'll probably be slightly longer than the V road tests.

I might have to check out the race in Denver. That is only a 9 hour drive away from Utah.

Wow of 31 finishers 14 Vipers! I know they have some kind of program to get them raced but that's twice as many as any other make / 6 Vettes / 6 Porsches / 3 CTS-Vs / 1 GTO / 1 Volvo. Does that make Dodge twice the loser :tease:

I think Mad Max did a little bump and run to get the win. Somewhat surprising that he was not penalized. Not really the way you should be racing in a professional series, IMHO.

Max Papis isn't known to bump someone out of the way to get in front of them. He went wide left on a sharp right turn so he can gather more speed on the next few turns. Liddell saw him moving to the inside and cut him off. Fortunately, the V's front held up better than the 911's rear.

Liddell knew he was in trouble. Team Porshe's only way to win was to hope the V would eat up its tires quicker. Papis drove the last 3 laps like he was on a mission. The 911 was getting eaten up by the V when they had to slow down for the curves or traffic. Liddell chosed his racing line, Papis chosed the low route and Liddell realized he was screwed.

A Corvette took out another Corvette earilier in the race because of a blocking attempt.

Racing incidents happen and neither driver should of been fined. The minute you take agression out of racing, it becomes boring. Look at F1 this year. They are too busy trying to conserve their only set of tires and passing attempts have been few and far in between.

I know Max isn't known to bump and run, but it did happen that way. Agreed Liddel was in trouble, but blocking is allowed as long as you don't make more than one move to block. I can understand if he was up along side, but he hit him from behind and knocked into the wall - not the way that I would want to win a race.

Racing incidents happen but slammin into someone from behind and knocking them into the wall looked deliberate to me. I think there was another way to pass without wrecking him even though he was blocking. They were both going for the win.

Papis even stated that he didn't want to win the race that way. I looked at the replay again and again. Papis did everything he could to avoid Liddell. He just happened to clip is rear with his right front.

Yes blocking is legal, but at least 3 cars were taken out of the race because of unsuccessful blocks. If you block, then you must be ready to pay the consequences. If the car in the back hits the back of your car, chances are you will spin. Laddell took the risk (because he knew Papis was going to overpower him racing) and he crashed out of the race.

If Liddell didn't attempt the block, the V would of overpowered the Porshe by the next turn. As you said, he was in trouble and took the risk.

Everyone should just be thankful the Vs will be running with more weight next race.

I saw the whole race, edge of your seat stuff. I would of liked to see a cleaner V win. I think Max had a little more track left for a cleaner pass. Then again when it's down to the wire like that and you are making split second decisions, it's hard to criticize.

Liddel should have given a little more room because the V was inches from his ass on that last lap. No way he could of beat him without blocking!

Now, can I have the rears from those caddy's in my V?

I don't know where the comment I just typed in went, so I'm gonna repeat it (pardon if you have just seen this before).

I changed the name of this thread to protect those who may not yet have seen the race and did NOT wish to find out the results before watching it (some ppl don't find it very fun to watch a race they know the outcome of). Proper courtesy is that if you intend to post race results, do so not in the title but place the comment [SPOILER] within the title instead, then post the race results in the thread not the title so that ppl can choose if they wish to see the results.

Hope that idea doesn't bother anyone.

No big deal just an old bit of netiquette from a race fan that's been on various boards forever.

Well my viewpoint is, The Caddies won!!! YEA!!!

Look, the whiner liddell, is an embarrassment, he purposely slowed up when he saw papas move to go around him, his bad choice his loss.

He was as much at fault as Papas, both drivers were doing what it takes to win, Papas won. There should be no whining, fining, or pining!

The German cars are just mad because all of a sudden a non-viper American car is winning and competitive.

Did anyone see the race on Sat. where the mustang booted the V off the track, it was in 17th, the V was in third!!!!!!!

I didn't hear a bunch of boo-hooing from the V team. I personally, would have postponed that drivers next race......

At my first driving event, my instructor was BSing with me a bit on the cool down lap. I don't know what made him bring it up, seeing as I'm green as hell, but, the only comment I really remember from him was:

"...Just remember, if a 911 is in front of you, all it take is just a little nudge into him corner panel, and you won't have to worry about seeing him again...spin city..."

After he said that, he got a weird look on his face, like he wasn't sure if he really said that out loud. Weird. Made me laugh though.

The Audi team won last year, but it came down to the last race of the season. Cadillac finished second.

This year, the Audi team is not competing in the GT series. But Volvo is new.

What I find interesting is the Corvette, the CTS-V and the GTO all use the small block Chevy. How is the CTS Sedan beating those Corvettes? Sure Cadillac is a corporate sponsored team But I'm sure the Corvette is getting similar assistance.

The SCCA hadicaps each make/model to make for an overall competitive series. I think nearly every model is 'gimped' to some level, except maybe the Volvo ;)

Fro their web site (http://www.speedvisionwc.com/seriesfacts.html):

"Homologation of Vehicles: In addition to the general series rules that apply to all homologated vehicles, each vehicle model that is homologated into the World Challenge Series has a set of specifications assigned to it on a Vehicle Technical Specification sheet (VTS) in order to give equivalent overall performance capabilities to a wide range of vehicles. Adjustments to a vehicle’s VTS sheet will be made until a competitive package is developed. Vehicles may be submitted for homologation up to a year before it goes on general sale to the public, and until that particular bodystyle goes out of production throughout the world."

Thsi doesn't count the 'reward weight' added to the highest placing cars (and removed to the lower placing cars).

Another interesting tid-bit:

"After the race, Liddell’s camp protested the incident with Papis. No final positions were changed, but Papis was fined $5,000 and 10 points in the SPEED GT Drivers’ Championship, which dropped him to fifth with 57 points whereas he would have been third behind current point-leader Tommy Archer (88) and Pilgrim (78). Papis was also placed on probation for two races."

I went to the race and the caddies were faster in the straits, but the 911's were definely much better under braking and turn in . I don't know what speed showed because I watched the on track monitors, and Lindell DEFINATELY was attempting to block, but he coul;d at that point because he was alowed ONE race move, when entering the corner he ran tight (to block the inside) which was his one move. upon exiting the corner he tried to move wide which would have been a second move on the corner. BTW I knew from the start the caddies were going to win the president of Cadillac division was the starter for the ALMS race later that day. and andy pilgrem would not have won that race - the 90 lbs really looked like 200 on the car, he was about 6 seconds behind the leaders.biggest losers as were ALL vipers gained 100 lbs, and hade the restrictor down sized by 5%, they looked slow. but the next race favors corvette, and viper- very long track and areo makes a big difference, but we will see!!

Well, from the first message, he said that papis was being blocked, and implied that he couldn't get out of the way. I saw the replay while watching the Panoz hold off the Porsche to win Gt2 (it was a great race by the way), and it certainly looked like Papis was a little eager on the throttle, and just plowed straight into the porsche. I would have thought it to be Papis' fault, but hey, what do i know.

c5racr1
04-18-05, 07:07 PM
you are right, but the rules say you are allowed 1 race move the porsche made one move when he went to the inside of the corner taking the inside line away, max went to the out side line and it appeared the 911 attempted to take that line away also. hey, sometime it works sometimes it does not.
