ie. their 2nd rear. i was thinking of goint to a track rental (drag track) but I am afraid of blowing my 2nd rear. I have the newer part # . It really sucks that I have to worry about taking a bone stock V to the track. I still insist the rear should be able to hold up to a 6k drop with slicks.

They need a smiley or 2 crickets chirping. I don't know if this is making me more confident that the new rear will hold up a little better or what.

Without any data from Getrag, it's not easy to say whether the 'new' rear is much different from old.
In terms of 6k drops with slicks, my last two cars (Viper GTS and M5) wouldn't hold up to that very well.... the M5 on the clutch, and the Viper on the half-shafts.
I can't imagine that I'd be very satisfied if I were a 1/4 mile type of guy. For me, it's the twisties... but I feel your frustration. At some point, you might want to consider something that handles the quarters a bit better.
