View Full Version : Brougham I'm Considering...

Hey guys... My first post. Forum for Caddi's...pimp.

Anyway, here's ma story.

About a week ago I was out and noticed a car for sale. It was an immaculate 85 Grand Prix. I went over, got the number, and called the guy. The next day I went over to check it out. It was sweet. Then, he pulled the card. He said he had another car for sale. I said, "Oh?". He said, "Yeah, a Cadillac. It's an 86 Fleetwood." I was like, "Oh, OK, that's cool." That night I thought on it. I wanted a Caddi for awhile anyway...so I decided to look at it the next day. I'm glad I did. Here's what it is: 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance, 307 and evety option immaginable. I didn't know much about older Caddi's, but it seems to have every option available. Memory seats, the d'Elegance pillow top seats (dear god), everything. And the funny part, everything works perfectly...except the windows take a little while. It has no rust, and the interior only needs a good vacuuming.

I plan on redoing the whole sound system. There's an aftermarket CD player in it from like '93 and all stock speakers. I then want to get some nice, clean rims. Must be chrome, but not huge. Just like some 17's or something. The run a Flowmaster muffler and some chrome pipes from it for some nice sound reverberance. A chrome-top Edelbrock filter, and some stuff like that to add a few more horses. Limo complete pitch black on the rear 3 windows, and retain the perfect dark grey/black vinyl top, and maybe someday respray the rest of the car.

He wants $2,500 for it. KBB says about a grand in my area. 101,000 miles on it. But it's immaculate, and pimp as heck.

Peep the pics and lemme know what y'all think.

...hopefully these links work.

$2500 dont seem so bad to me. sometimes KBB is full of crap. Windows take a little while? All of them? Do they go down slow as well or just up?

Does he have a service record for the car? Its nice to be able to see whats been fixed in the past. Does it have a spare tire/jack/lug wrench? AC blows cold? I would also pop the hood and see how dirty the oil is and also the air filter, gives you an idea on how well it was maintained. And if you get the VIN number you can check carfax.com and get a lotta info on the car like how many owners its had etc...

Explain to the seller about what KBB says and make an offer of $2250, less if you find more problems, Tire tread is good? No fluid leaks? some leaks only show up when the car is running - I like to lay paper under the engine and tranny and let the car run for 5 minutes and then check the paper. Brakes are good?

Well if you buy it and it turns out to be a lemon, you can always call Xzibit and ask him to pimp your ride :coolgleam But if the car is in good shape and drives well, I could see myself paying $2500, it really is a nice car.

Seems like a sweet ride, beautiful.

I had one of those, loved it! Test drive and see how it feels. Brakes pulse? Shift good? I bet you can come up with a list of things that need to be fixed, together with the KBB info you can steal it for cheap. (look on ebay and see how much the same car has sold for/going for and compare conditions)

If in doubt have it checked out by and independent mechanic.
You've found a great site here, you're gonna find invaluable info and helpful smart folks that'll save you tonse of money and pain.

Welcome to caddies. (to hell with the grandprix)

Post back what you decided to do...

I just paid 4,300 for a '89 d'Elegance mint white/red interior with 73k miles and my windows go up slow also but everything else works and its a sweet. That car is in nice shape, I would say offer what you feel is fair, if he dont take it walk, there are others but that would look nice done up. You just wonder what he bought it for.

That is a very nice Brougham. Looks really clean and nice. How firm is he on that $2,500? I paid $2000 for mine but it's not a d'Elegance. Only 61000 miles when I got it though.

Yeah, he's firm on the price. He bought it from some old lady before the winter to use it as a winter car. Now he's selling it. Everything works great on the car but the windows. They work...but just a little slower than should be. No biggie. I'm just anxiously waiting for Monday when my car is done on EBAY to see what I have to work with...
