My 98 Catera will sometimes just crank and not catch. After about 15-30 minutes wait time it does catch and crank. Lately, it starts but then quits and won't start again, but then does start after about 15-20 minutes. When it does run, it's fine which seems to indicate that it is not a fuel pump issue. Anyone have similar and what's the solution. It's at the shop now. :cookoo:

This sure sounds like an intermittent with the anti-theft immobilizer. Do you have a second ignition key that you can try?

My '99 was having what sounds like the same symptoms. Mine was cured by replacing the crank sensor. I almost had the car towed twice, and then it started after about 10mins.

Hey Guys...thanks for the website. My mechanic was stumped as even when it failed, nothing showed on the diagnostics (as was explained by others). I had him check the crank sensor and it was out whenever it was failed. $180 for the sensor (had to come from Cad) and 275 for labor (diagnostics and replacement). Thanks again.
