Hi. My first post here, so please be gentle.

I just got the 2005 Escalade ESV yesterday. My salesman made a remark, which at the time was rather cryptic. He said, "If you want to watch a DVD on the front panel, my detail guy can tell you how. You just disconnect a wire and ground it".

Well, I didn't pay much attention to him. Today I get what he was driving at.

I've searched this forum up and down. I saw the "1791" code, but it seems no one has solved the problem.

Is there a workaround to make DVDs play on the front screen? I want my wife to be able to watch a movie too!

Thanks!
Drury

I found this on another forum:

The dealership accomplished this by grounding the parking brake wire to the NAV/DVD unit. On most NAVs that offer the DVD option (all do but the location of the DVD unit makes it cumbersome to load discs) You can only watch the DVD while the car is in park. It sends a ground or negative signal enabling you to watch it, the switch they had installed simply sends a ground.

Is yours a touchscreen? Would you by chance know the model number?

The 2005 NAV Unit can't play DVD movies, its hardware can't support the format. For the 2005 NAV Unit to play DVD movies it needs to be physically modded.

And :welcome:

Yes, it's a touchscreen. No I don't know the model number. The dealer seemed quite sure of himself when he said grounding a wire would allow the unit to play a DVD.
