I just replaced a slightly bent right halfshaft on my 90 SDV and the one that was supplied had no dynamic balancer on it. The old one had the large "can" shaped balancer. Any ideas if there will be problems with this or what I might have lost by losing the balancer in the deal? Thanks

Come on guys- anyone have any ideas about what I might be losing by having this half-shaft installed with no dynamic balancer?

I replaced the drove axles on my Fifth Avenue and seen the same thing. The original had a weight on it and the new one didnt. However when I bought axles for my 89 Oldsmobile I had, one of the new ones had a weight and the originals didnt. The guy explained it to me saying they are balanced when the are rebuilt. If they need a weight to balance them out then one gets put on there. So If you bought new ones and it didnt have a weight then it just didnt need one.

You should be fine. It isn't a damper or weight it is actually a device to help take up the lash in the driveline when you transition from on-throttle to off-throttle operation .... or vice versa. You will likely never notice the difference. If you do it would be with a slightly more pronounced "clunck" or noise/jolt when you suddenly let off the throttle from a drive condition....or you suddenly step into the throttle from a coast condition.

bbobynsky _ thatnks for the reply.

The change cured a vibration that had been there for a long time and even the local dealer missed it. The vibes came on big about 45 mph and higher. Found it by jacking up the front and laying on ground underneath and watching things move as tires were spun by hand.
