View Full Version : Hey, you left your lights on! '88 DeVille... lxndrtg 03-29-05, 07:48 AM Somebody point me in the right direction...where is the little alarm dingy thingy that lets you know you left your lights on? Mine don't work or I would just follow the sound. I've had to deal with a dead battery twice but, most of the time, someone will just tell me I left my lights on (usually at work). It's really getting kind of embarassing. Just use your Twilight Sentinel and they'll shut themselves off between 30 seconds & 3 minutes, wherever you set it. No more dead batteries. lxndrtg 03-29-05, 12:03 PM I have never used the Twilight Sentinel before...I hope it works.
Meanwhile, I would still like to replace the little dinger thingy if someone knows where it is on my car...Thanks all! I have never used the Twilight Sentinel before...I hope it works.
Meanwhile, I would still like to replace the little dinger thingy if someone knows where it is on my car...Thanks all!on my '89 the little dinger thingy AKA Multi-Function Chime (MFC) is located somewhere under the dash behing the glove box by the sound of it. I have looked in my oem manual but, have yet to pinpoint it's location.
"Hey! Does anybody know where the dinger thingy (MFC) is, what it looks like and how to replace it?!" Good news! I have found the dinger thingy (MFC) in my manual. Sorry it took me so long. Tough little bugger to find. I'm not yet used to the oem manual, 2" thick and great for insomnia but, I digress.
It is, in fact, under the dash, above the glove box as my nearly deaf Tinner's ears led be to believe.
Here is a pdf file with pictures. Hope it helps you out!
By the way, I noticed your birthday, I hope you weren't born in Hawaii? Must have been somewhat disappointing to have your birthday the day before Christmas or, did your family spoil you rotten for two days? (dare to dream, eh?) lxndrtg 03-31-05, 01:06 PM First, my Twilight Sentinel does work...
Secondly, I always thought everyone was celebrating my birthday...just a day late. As far as being spoiled, I waited until I got married for that.
Thanks for the pdf file, I'm going to dig that little dingy-thingy out and replace it this weekend. Atfer all, it will also remind me to remove my key before I get out of the car. First, my Twilight Sentinel does work...

That Twilight Sentinal is handy. When I first got the car and took it on a trip I got worried because I began to notice a 'clicking' from the dash and my digital instrument panel would flicker and dim. The first thought that came to mind was; "Oh great! The panel is going out! I wonder how much that's gonna cost me! I hope it's not the computer!!"
Turns out it was the Twilight Sentinel. I realized that every time I when under a bridge or overpass the light sensor on the dash wouild be shaded enough to activate the lights. I have a dash cover which has an opening for the sensor but, it sometimes shades it even more than without it.
Near my home is a double bridge and every time I pass under the TS clicks on and off twice. The folks coming at me must think I'm flashing my lights at them! lol!
Sometimes I turn it off during the day to avoid this. LuvCads 03-31-05, 04:42 PM I'm still trying to get used to the Twilight Sentinel in my '87 Coupe DeVille. The 1st time I used it, I had my lights on manually on the highway at night, and when I tried to activate it, the lights went out!!!
I got it almost mastered. Just got to figure out the sensitivity on it. I have it set where the lights dim when I'm practically right on top of the car approaching me, must have to adjust one of the sliding wheels on the dash for distance.
Also, I noticed when a car passes me at night & I have the setup on, it flashes the car as it passes me, then dims itself. Luxury, gotta love it LOL. Just installed new hi/lo beam bulbs today. The package said they give off a bluish color but I haven't noticed it. Paid $15.00 Cdn a bulb for a set of 4. Maybe they'll look blue when it's totally dark.
Took some more pics of my ride today with a throw-away camera I got yesterday. When I get the film developed & scanned the pics, I'll post them up.
Other than that, the Coupe is running great, with the exception of an axle that's leaking, getting fixed very soon.
P.S. How do you set it to shut the lights off themselves? My friend's mom has a '99 Oldsmobile Alero that does that & heard that there's a way to set it in my car. My system doesn't dim the headlights. Here are pics of the intstructions from my Owner's Manual. kneesrbad2 11-18-05, 06:04 PM 89 Cadillac, my twilight switch use to turn the lights on or off, now if I want to turn my lights on I have to do it manually. Anyone know why my switch is not working? Fuse, relay, setting I have to make? Maybe a bad light sensor (in the defroster grill). | |
