Just got a '92 Sedan Deville over the weekend and had a question about the remote locking system.

When I push each of the buttons on the remote I can hear a clicking sound coming from the car, but the locks don't open or close. The same happens with the remote trunk release, the glove box button works.
Since I do hear a noise coming from the car, I am certain that the remote is transmitting properly. The clicking noise seems do be coming from the dash/radio area.

Thanks

Time to add another variable into the mix. The lock/unlock and trunk release functions all work properly when the car is running...how much sense does that make?
Does this new information make diagnosis any easier?

Do the door locks only work when the doors are shut? Like can you lock them with the door button on the door even though the door is open?

The power locks will not work when the doors are open...I assume to prevent accidental lockout. I find it really odd that the remote works for all functions when the car is running, but not when it is off. And when it is off and a button on the transmitter is pressed you can hear some sort of click like a relay or something, but neither the doors or the trunk will lock or unlock.
This may sound really trivial, but after 3 years of having a car with this option I really want it to work. I am always walking to and from the car with my laptop. groceries, etc. and the remote entry is so nice, not to mention the wear and tear it saves on the paint around the locks.

I may know the answer to your problem. The locks are supposed to work with the door open. The 92 didnt have a lockout feature. Answer me something else. Does the courtesy lights on the back doors work? The white one underneath the arm rest and the red one on the end?

I'll have to check that when I get home. While we are on the topic of interior lights, where are they supposed to be located? The only lights other than the courtesy lights that light when a door is opened are the two in the rear in the area between the rear window and each of the doors. This makes for a very dark interior when it is burgundy leather.
The only other lights that I see that might light are the map lights up by the rear view mirror.

The lights by the back windows should come on as well as the white ones under the armrests of the doors along with the red ones on the door sides. The lights above the rearview mirror should come on as well. There are no lights in the footwell areas.

The map lights above the mirror and none of the rear courtesy lights (those located in the doors) illuminate when the doors are opened. Also, the power unlock function does not work when the door is open either.

Does this bring us any closer to a diagnosis?
Thanks

You have a blowed fuse somewhere. Check under the passenger side of the dash. You will have to remove the black thing and there are som regular fuses there along with some relays. Make sure none of them are blowed. Check the ones in the regular fuse block under the drivers side dash and then finally the ones under the hood.

Thanks, I'll try it tomorrow and report back.
I hope this solves it, would realy like to utilize these options without spending a fortune to fix.

No blown fuses...
Now what? Could it be a relay/relays?
Sounds like something is clicking but not sticking.

~ You Don't have Power to the Circuit! Fuse, Fusable Link, Failed Wire or Bad Ground! The Courtesy Lights are on the Same Circuit. Post your findings. The "Clicking" is the relays, they are working.

Ooops! I just re-read the post when I saw it had been updated and noticed that I only checked fuses on the driver's side, didn't even know here were any on the passenger side. I'll do that tomorrow when it is light out.
It certainly would account for the clicking noise coming from the glove box area when remote is pressed and the car is off.
I'll report back after daylight.
Thanks for keeping a newbie to the Caddy world informed.

Do I have to remove a panel with a screw/nutdriver or similar? There is no easily accessible fuse/relay panel on the passenger side and all of the fuses on the panel under the steering wheel that appeared to control those functions looked good.
What am I missing?

You have to remove the big black cover under the dash on the passenger side. It takes a 9/16ths socket. Remove 4 or five screws and some simplet wing nut things towards the back by the carpet and it should come off. Look up in there and to the far right is the relay center. It has several regular fuses. Check all of them.

It only took 3 to get it loose and a 15 amp fuse was blown and that did the trick!
The question is why the hell do they put some of the fuses accessible on the driver's side and the others so tough to get at? It is not like they are high voltage...15 amp?

Now if I can get that oil light to quit flickering when the car is standing still I be pretty good to go.

Thanks for the help!

Your like the third person that has had this problem, not including me. I discovered it only after pulling wires and relays and spending four evenings with the carpet pulled up checking connectors. I finally seen in the service manual where it says door locks and it was blowed. Go figure. I would replace the oil pressure sending unit with a AC-Delco one. That most likely would take care of your problem. I replaced a oil pressure sending unit on a 87 Pontiac Bonneville, with one from Napa and it flickered all the time at idle. Bought another one from Barrett/Jensen Chevy Olds and never had another problem.

I picked up the sending unit (the local Cadillac dealer didn't have one so they sent me to the Chevy dealer down the street). It doesn't look too tough to get to, just have to take off some air intake stuff to make ie easier.
