Right now I m watching 'Mansquito' on the SciFi channel. What a gas! I mean gasser!! :histeric: :alien:

One of my favorites is..... well, I can't think of it right now, give me a few and I'll come up with it.

I did like 'Galaxy Quest' nice satire of 'Star Trek'.

A little known British sci-fi that was excellent from 1985 was "LifeForce."

"21 Days Later" was another...

Can't think of a crappy one right now.

Space Balls was a parody for Star wars I thought.

AHHHHHH.. I just remembered the worst movie I evah saw..

"Yor Hunter From The Future"

Arrrrghhhh.. i saw it in the movie theater when i was 12.. first movie i ever walked out on. It is bad when you can't even get a 12 year old to sit through a movie.

and yes.. Space Balls was a parody of mostly Star Wars.

Another good one!! 1997, I got it too, but the sequel sucked big time! You do know that Starship Troopers was originally written by some Frenchman and supposed to be a parody of the American military?? My buddy knows the story there and told me that. He reads a lot of foreign books that it was based on, etc.

"Aliens" is another favorite.

'2001, A Space Odessy'

It was very well done for it's day, though by today's standards it's painfully slow moving. But that's what made the cinematography so good.

Best Sci-Fi? The Star Wars, all the Star Treks, Back to the Future, there are just too many to name. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan sticks out in my mind though, that movie was excellent.

Best Sci Fi movie for me is a toss up between The Day The Earth Stood Still, and Army Of Darkness. They both have the phrase, "Clatu Verata Nictu" in them.

Worst Sci Fi movie of all time, is Plan Nine From Outer Space, written and directed by Ed Wood. Ed Wood however, I think is one of Johnny Depp's best films.

On a side note, I feel I must mention that Mel Brooks is f**kin' AWESOME! :D

"Aliens" is another favorite.

Robert Heinlein was American, the original book is much better than the movie. The movie doesn't have the special drop suits the soldiers wear to fight the bugs, it's a pretty important part of the book. Heinlein was ambivalent towards the military; he liked some aspects of it and disliked others. Starship Troopers is the only book of his that I've read but I definitely plan on reading more. As for the original topic, I'd say my favorite sci fi movies include Star Wars, Innerspace, and Terminator. The worse, there are so many, how about The Cat From Outer Space? That was ridiculous.

Dark City was awesome. Very few people I know, have seen the movie. Same goes for Gattaca, which was pretty good too. That had Ethan Hawk, and Uma Therman in it. Blade runner was great. They have the model of the pyramid shaped office building at the Musuem of Moving Pictures in Queens I think, or maybe it was brooklyn.....don't remember. They had a video playing next to the model, showing how they filmed the scene, where the camera pans all the way up the side, until it gets to the big window, where that guy's office is. Pretty cool.

Aliens = Greatest science fiction movie ever. Period. James cameron is an amazing director.

danbuc
03-19-05, 02:03 AM
Alien and Aliens were great I agree. Aliens 3 just plain sucked though. Alien Resurection could have been a little better I think, but I still liked it because you get to see more of the aliens than in the other movies.

Speaking about Aliens and what not, how many peopl here saw Alien vs. Predator. WHen I went to see it, I thought it was going to suck, but it actually wasn't all that bad. The special effect make up for the predator was crazy, and the CGI Aliens were better than in any of the previous Alien movies. The plot behind the story could have been told a little better I think, but overall, not too bad.

I heard somebody mention Starship Troopers before.......f**kin' horrible. On the other hand, it was half as bad as Starship Troppers 2, which was just stupid.

The original War of the Worlds is one of my all time favorites. That, and Earth vs. The Flying Saucers. That movie was cool. That's where the creators of Mars Attacks got the idea for their spaceships I think.

Oh, I almost forgot.......what about Meteor Man...hehe. Anybody seen that movie? :D

Best Sci-Fi movie I'll give a tie:

2001 A Space Oddesy. For a movie approaching 40 years old, it still has an appeal that makes it timeless.

Contact. Not as good as the book, but still a thought-provoking flick.

Worst: easy choice.

Barbarella. A truly stupid film. Any one really fear "matmoss"

Contact was kind of boring, it took to long to get to the end where she finally goes through that machine.

Sphere was an excellent movie. I loved how they had different "chapters" in the movie, it was a little different, than what you usually see. I thought that was kind of neat, as far as film making goes.

"Open the pod bay doors HAL, open the pod bay doors!"...."I cannot do that Dave"....Best Movie EVER!

2010 was alright too. Not as good as 2001 I thought, but Roy Schneider was great in it.

What about Lawnmower Man II: Jobes War. I thought it was alright, but not great. It was on the other day, so I thought I'd watch it.

Not really a Sci Fi movie, but Jacobs Ladder was f**kin' AWESOME! Scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it. I haven't seen it in years, but I still vividly remember the scene where the subway car goes by, with all those souls trapped inside, staring out with these blank, somewhat twisted, and totally deranged faces. Kind of hard to describe, but it was really freaky, especially when watching it in a pitch black basement with the sounds cranked way up...hehe. :suspense: .....

I always like dimming the halogen to practically nothing to watch movies, just more dramatic that way. I've seen most of Jacobs ladder but I don't think I liked it. I would probably appreciate it now if I saw it.

Would "Underworld" count? I thought it was pretty good for a Vampire/werewolf movie and Kate Beckinshire has become quite popular. :drinker

I guess you could put Underworld under the Sci Fi category. The did use some science when they did the experiments with the blood, and making those silve/nitrate bullits and stuff, plus it was a fictional movie. These two seperate characteristics are enough to classify it as Sci Fi. I think it would be safe to consider it somewhat Sci Fi.

I just watched "Revenge of the Sith" last night...Damn that was a good movie!!!I'm looking forward to seeing that one. I hope I get the chance to see it on the big screen, but DVD's are nice because they typically have all the extra goodies like alternate beginings/endings, deleted scenes, bloopers, etc. I've never cared much about the commentarries though.

It's also nice to stop the movie any time you like for snack or 'potty' (sorry, I've got all girls at my house and have adjusted my language accordingly) breaks.
