Hi, all! I'm currently looking at a 2008 Cadillac STS V8 with 37K for $21,500 with all options except the AWD. I feel this is a decent price. I had a 2007 STS4 V6 a few years back and developed an air conditioning problem that eventually caused me to trade it off. I've had a 1994 Eldorado with the Northstar as well as a 1998 Catera (sigh, I know). What do I need to be looking at with this vehicle in the way of problem spots, etc.? I have searched the forums but am going to ask anyway. My grandmother has a Northstar in her SRX and the car has never been to the shop in its 100,000 mile life and I would like to duplicate this experience. Thanks!

Lower control arms, interior door handles and exterior door handle antennas/micro switches are the only issues I can think of being common. If it was a awd there's a few more but not nearly as bad as the v6.

get a VIN decode to really know what you have. ( www.compnine.com or a friendly dealer providing you with a build sheet)
"all options" mean very different things to people.
There are a lot of options the STS can have and some can only be combined with others.

If it has a clean history, very good price. Go for it.

Upon further investigation, it was a rental! Back to the hunt! Thanks for the input. I know what to look for!

Rentals aren't always bad deals but that price is suspect unless it is A SPOTLESS 1SG with ACC in the color and interior of your choosing and warranteed. It's six years old, almost seven.

I just bought my 2008 sts in white diamond and it started out as a rental car in Oklahoma. Then wound up in Texas I am the 4th owner. And it only had 66000 miles on it and it's the v-8. Nice car and no problems thus far other than backup sensors don't work correctly and they damaged the front right fog light and tmps sensor is rear was replaced with bad aftermarket which I fixed. :-). Paint and interior is in great shape and everything works. Gets great gas mileage etc. I only paid 17300 for the car

Congratulations. Enjoy the car. Curious to hear about the gas mileage. Don't the rentals have different gearing for fuel economy?

I get really good gas mileage around 30 on the highway. Better than my Lincoln t/c

Our 2007 Hertz has GU2 - 2.73 rear end gear.

Man, I wish I could find where you can rent a caddy, every time I need to rent a car they only have the usual crappy boring cars that makes me want to just road trip it instead.

Rented an xts from budget. They had ats available too. Depends where you go. Airports are a good bet.

Enterprise works with a lot of GM dealers and has Cadillacs.

They were good to deal with on my last rental. They upgraded me to a new CTS wagon for $8 a day (I caught them at a good time). Had a nice Caddy for 2 weeks for $32 a day!

It never hurts to ask and it always pays off to be as nice as circumstances permit.
