Holy Crap!!! What an improvement over the presidential limo. I'm really starting to really like this car. Can't wait to see it in person at the NY auto show at the end of the month.

When does this car hit showrooms? How long can I drive mine around like it's brand new? :p

I like the slight refresh and it doesn't totally isolate 2000 - 2005 model owners like myself. The profiles are virtually identical. It's sort of like what lexus did with the LS. Us 2000 - 2005 owners have untill the end of the decade, or at least a few more model years, before we'll really feel like lasts Sunday's paper... I still like the a$$ on my DeVille better.

Yes, I like the back of my DeVille better as well.. Front? Not sure.. The "newness" is nice on the update... By the time the full redesign comes along, I should be ready for my first new car - I hope...

Now that's alot better than I originally thought. Pretty nice.

It looks exactly the same as the current DTS with new wheels and F/R facia refresh. Same FWD setup- if it's not RWD, its a non contender in my book- even more so if they are trying to slip a "new" design past us with the same substandard hardware. I expected the new DTS to be a GS430 crusher-not a re-dressed 01' Deville. Dissapointing for sure.

Um, a "GS430 crusher"??? These are two different types of cars. The GS competes with the STS while the LS competes with the Deville. That is still uneven though because the LS is RWD and is up there with the S Class and 7 Series.

Forget about the DeVille competing with the Lexus LS in our lifetime. It's like the Corvette competing with the Viper. Or the CTS-V competing with the BMW M5. Cadillac might get ahead for a year, but once the Lexus (or, in this case, Viper or M5) releases their new model, it's over.. They're just way too ahead of the game. However, Cadillac is working on a higher luxury full-size vehicle to compete with Mercedes, BMW and Lexus..

Cadillac isn't trying to fool anybody with this new design. This isn't the "new" DeVille everyone's been talking about. That's not coming for another couple of years. This is the same type of deal you had when the first Escalade made it to dealerships. This isn't the "real deal" yet. Still, I don't believe the next DeVille will be, or even should be, rear wheel drive. Cadillac has plenty of rear wheel drive vehicles now. And the new ultra luxury model will also be rear wheel drive. Cadillac would be out of their minds to completely alienate their front-wheel drive buying customer base. There are far more than enough people who appreciate front wheel drive. Then you have the people who simply don't care which wheels power the vehicle. This number overwhelms the amount of people who want or need rear wheel drive.

I agree Sal, the fresh look of the bow and stern are nice. If you know Caddies like we do you will be able to pick this one out. I think 2008 is the next re-design. (Sigma based?). My 99' Concours still has some of the old school lines which I enjoy. As usual the DTS will always be my first choice as a daily driver.

It does look much better in black, nonetheless i think cadillac has made a large mistake. To me it looks like a cobbled together Cadillac, the grill from an Escalade, CTS headlights, Hood and deck from an STS, and the 00-05 body and bumpers. Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time" comes to mind. The Deville is no longer the flagship model for Cadillac and its a shame. I think it started to lose popularity with the remodel in 98 or 00, i cant recall, whenever the lost the frenched tail lamps. The rear roofline even reminds me of a Crown Vic. cruiser, and when a Cadillac starts looking like a lincoln or a merc. i dont know what to do... not only that but they are following in the all RWD models, I think Caddy will lose a lot of customers, especially in the northern states, I live in Michigan and i certainly wouldnt want to drive one of these cars in a Mich winter, at least keep one car that is FWD the smallest model at least, the CTS, or even the STS, and since the STS is the unofficial flagship of Cadillac then keep the Deville FWD. I hate to say anything negative about the brand of automobile that i am most passionate about, but i think Cadillac is making a few mistakes. :helpless: yet my tune may change once they hit showrooms... or maybe theyre playing a practical joke, "Bush gets the '06 model Deville as his limo, lets make it ugly as hell" And theyre keeping something so top secret that it will blow us all away.... wishful thinking im sure. Maybe the DTS-V will look hot:hmm:

(Sigma based?)

I believe Lutz said they have got all they can get out of the Sigma witht eh STS. They will no longer be using the platform for new cars.

I am waiting for the new DTS in '08, I think it would be great if they had an Acura like AWD system standard on it.

I meant LS430 crusher- The MSRP is about the same. Given Cadillac's new direction- I would love to see a Northstar powered RWD Deville minus all the magnetic crap (shocks, magna steer) with navi for 50-55K. I would even settle for a cheap LS6 powered CTesque V conversion sans the MSRP inflation. Notice that I didn't even mention better reliability or resale. I am loosing my faith in Cadillac more and more every day. Motor Trend put it best when they said the base STS was substandard with the 3.6, base interior, and a 40K+ MSRP. I think sales would go thru the roof if the sticker was honest. It's really sad when a 1yr old Cadillac is worth 50% of the orig msrp while a 98 GS is worth 50% or more.

So all they did was freshen the body of the old Deville? :suspect:

How much of this is new? :suspense:

The front end, the rear end, the wheel selection and the interior is all new.

I think yall are bein a little hard on the poor guy... He wasnt meant to be a complete DTS replacement or even a substantive upgrade. Its meant a subtle freshening to take the car into the next decade, or close to it, since right now the cost of doing a ground up on the DTS and the fact that its still such a good seller are keeping it from occuring.

I think the interior is the more exciting part, the old interior was definitely showing its age.

In otherwords, we are GM, so why should we invest in our car's when the Escalade is arriving soon! :p

I went to the auto show over the weekend and saw it in person, this thing has totally grown on me. The front and the back don't seem to totally agree with each other though, the front is art & science all the way while the back is retro Caddy. Anyway, besides this little complaint I like it. The interior also looks a thousand percent better than the previous car. I took pictures but they didn't come out too well (this is what I get for forgetting my digital and having to buy a disposable), but there are enough posted already anyway. I think its a perfect place holder until an all new DTS comes out. Wonder if they'll do a V version?

They had a DTS stretch limo on display too, which thankfully looks better than the president's limo, but it still has that weird stretched limo look. Whats the story on this, is it built by Cadillac or by a conversion company? There was no mention of any conversion company on or near the car, which makes me think maybe Caddy is back in the factory limo game.

That was actually Donald Trump's limo sitting there.. it was made by Cadillac master coachbuilders. Which made the older deville in limo forum as well.

They got rid of the seat-mounted seatbelts, which are painful for the tall and skinny. Now if they would bring back cloth interiors, I might buy one.

I wonder if someone will make a front-end kit for 2000-2005 DeVilles.. I know, it's silly - but it gets done for other vehicles, like the Corvette - which is a complete update, front-side-back...

I think part of the reason why they didnt dramatically redesign this car for the 2006 model year is probably because, they already have plans for major changes for the 2007/2008 DTS model, there is talk that it will look similar to the Cadillac V-16 concept, and I will be buying a new DTS around that time,if not its replacement vehicle.I currently own a 2005 DTS and the 06 does look similar to my car,but with some cosmetic changes.

You know what the new front end has really grown on me. I like it, and i think they are doing a little more uniformity, and thats why cadillacs are looking alike, besides the big GM parts bin. I dont like the chrome stripe though. But man the interior looks awsome, I like that analog clock, and the seats look better, and there appears to be an overall better fit-and-finish all around the car. I do believe I will get one next year since my other two are showing there age a little.

I understand it uses a completely new computer system, one that will be used nto the future. So while they have made some movement on the exterior I think they are slowly building it up for the future. they have alot of things on their plate.

I still like my 01

Just saw one parked outside the restaurant I was eating at.
I took a good look at it.
Surprsingly I like that rear end now in person....in fact the front end looked very 'grafted on'. All in all a nice looking ride with a hint of 'something not quite sittin right'-ness to it.

It was parked amidst a bunch of rental cars, this may have been a rental too.
