I just purchased this 2005 CTS-V and the plastic shifter bezel has sticky residue around it like itís missing something that was glued on it. Iím going to guess it was something that looks carbon fiber like the dash. Can anyone help me out here?

Mine's sticky but it's just the rubberized coating on it deteriorating. Some day I'll clean it up and plastidip it.

So i'm not missing anything then?

Probably not. Mine is the same way on my new to me 05. GM uses that crap and it deteriorates over time. My 04 Denali I traded in on the V was the same way. It had that mess all over the dash. I'll be hydrodipping mine sometime in the future.

Same deal here, I'm ordering a new bezel from Lindsay Cadillac along with tons of other crap.

You have the part number?

No, I haven't placed my order yet. I plan on calling tomorrow and stuffing my shopping cart with the bezel and a few other goodies. If you don't get a part number before that, I'll post it on here.

The part number is 15229751. It's about $165+ and comes with a new shift knob assembly. Since I'm going with a V2 shifter and suede boot I'll just have to put up with the sticky residue for now.

Hmmm... that part number comes up as a shifter knob on GM parts direct? $139.50

According to Luke from Lindsay Cadillac, "the only way to get the bezel is a new knob assembly". So you get the shift knob, leather boot, and bezel.

Check out item #24:

I'll probably just sand and paint mine.

At least you get all three for that and not just the trim ring.

Unless you just want to buy a new one or spend time sanding it down, you can use "Goo-Gone" to dissolve the coating. Under it is a nice black plastic trim ring.

Carbon fiber dash is an aftermarket thing probably installed by previous owner.

This. Goo-gone and clean it up nice. Looks fine without the coating thats originally there. Mine is in the same condition and I did the above.

Haha, this really bothers you I can tell. I got a large bottle of the stuff. Because of your interest, I'm gonna scrub mine down just to see if it works.

The great thing about the "Goo-Gone" approach, is that there is no "scrubbing" required. Give it a healthy slathering of the stuff and go away for 10-15 minutes. Get a rag that you don't have any love for and start wiping.

Not a problem. It worked so well for me that I had to pass it on.
