: Talk me out of this!

1991 4x4 Suburban like I want, with a mint interior, almost no rust, working AC, working Cruise, old man maintained, bucket seats, barn doors, rear AC and Heat and third row, for $1800. Needs tires and maybe brakes. Negatives, some a-hole put a visor on this so there are bolts in the leading edge of the roof, and a couple scratches and the leading edge of the wheel wells has some blisters starting. All things I think can be fixed for cheap.

Which engine?

Why in the world would you want to talk you out of getting this truck? Seems like the perfect vehicle to cruise the fields of corn all the while keeping the Coupe De Ville for special occasions. I say go for it!

1/2 Ton or 3/4 Ton??? I heard the 3/4 ton in those years rode like crap.

I'd say go for it if it runs like a champ, doesn't smoke, shifts right, steers straight, all that good crap. I'm assuming its the L05, 350 TBI under the hood.

$1800 seems like a fair price, but it is no steal.
If this is the right time for you, grab it, if not you can always find another one for that kind of money.

I wanted one of those soooo bad all the years I sold GMC's. I finally bought one identical to that except white with blue interior. I hated it. Too big, too slow, too much gas, and rode like it hated me. Mechanically it was a good vehicle, but if I were to buy one again it would be a stripped down half ton 2WD with vinyl seats and rubber floor mats. I think I would enjoy that.

I can't talk you outa that. If I did, it'd only be so that I could then buy it! Lol. That is THE suburban I've always wanted to find. Mint for the most part and mostly if not all original, and a 91. And 4wd. Yea. Horrible horrible truck.

I don't think you can even get the 3/4 ton with that "plush" interior in that generation . All aluminum trim Instead of the fake wood and harder cloth or vinyl seats.

I need a truck and this money won't stop me from buying another car. This is less than two weeks pay. Also sorry, unless you will sell me your marauder, I am looking for DGGM impala. Although Impala Dave is selling his minty fresh 94 BBB for $7000. He has three impalas and wants to downsize.

1/2 ton L05 4x4 that is pretty loaded. It drives like a brand new truck. If it wasn't for the visor holes in the roof it would be perfect.

I just sold my 1989 2WD 454 TBI suburban that was rusty and had 30K more miles for $2k and my phone was ringing off the hook. Clean Suburbans of this era are easily in the $4k+ range. In Minnesota these things without rust have been off the grid for a decade at least.

If I buy it it will be parked in the winter. I love rust free vehicles. I will only need it for summer and fall to tow trailers and pheasant hunt.

Don't look bad for a 22 year old truck. How many miles?

HAZZARDJOHN
07-25-13, 11:53 AM
143K. It was meticulously maintained. there is a huge stack of receipts. The guy selling it (take that for what it's worth) says he bought it from a 90 year old man. Since it is clean and from MN. I bet it was driven down south every winter towing a trailer or something.

Around here, one in that shape would easily go for 5k. 1800 is DEFINITELY a steal for this truck.

Looks damn nice. I'd buy it.
There are very few around here that are that clean. There are maybe 3 clean unrestored suburbans and 4 clean unrestored silverados around here. I love that generation of trucks, but could not bring myself to buy anything less than a clean one (I hate rust).
A friend of mine has a rusty 200k mile 1990 suburban (have some interior shots of it in the WDYDTYCT thread a few days ago). Its not horrible looking, but it needs rockers, quarters, and rear door sills.
His is a 1500 4x2 L05. It pulls pretty hard when you get on it (has a beefed up rebuilt 700r4 and 4.11s or 3.73s out back) and gets 15 mpg combined (not sure how he manages that with those gears). He let me drive it and it was a pretty nice riding truck with decent power for its size.

It sounds like you need to buy this Suburban. I liked riding in that red C2500 you had, this would probably ride nicer with the 1/2 ton suspension and it's in nicer condition.

I will when the new grill I ordered last week shows up. This grill is kinda in bad shape. Mostly cause the snaps are screwed into it.

It's a bug screen. It keeps bugs out of the radiator. I think this was more of a problem in the 50's with crappy unsersized radiators, but the previous owner was an old man.
