: Hockey Puck Mod

When you charge the a/c, it needs to be at 2000 RPM. In order to get to the throttle I did the "hockey puck mod". Took the "home plate" off and jammed a regulation-sized hockey puck into the intake tube. It's not pretty, but it works. I'm going to leave it like that.

Bonus pic of the inside of the limo at night as I test the recently-repaired A/C system. It passed.

What is the benefit of this "Hockey Puck Mod" to the LT1? :noidea:

Just cleans up the appearance a bit. Makes it look more like the F-bodies and Corvettes. There's a *slight* increase in noise under acceleration - the "home plate" is a silcencer so removing it makes a bit more noise at WOT.

I did it because I needed easy access to the throttle in order to prop it open. I needed to check a/c pressures at 2k RPM.

OH OK I see now, but I find the bracket on the intake is quite unsightly without the HP.

A similar mod is done on '00+ Northstars, makes several maintenance related tasks easier. But it's usually referred to as the "butt plug mod" :yup: .

The bracket comes off and the intake cleans up nicely. My brother did the same thing on his car, but he too preferred the HP look and put it back on.

That's awesome, I was not aware of this mod , it is some sorta spring booster then

The "hockey puck mod" just allows you to remove the home plate. The "vise grips on the throttle lever mod" bumps the RPMs up to 2,000 :p That mod is not pictured. You can't easily access the throttle lever with the home plate installed.

Now pull the brackets and get some Corvette fuel rail covers. :)

I did that on my '96.

The smoke is from the 5 gallons of oil Wal*Mart spilled all over the engine. First and last time I took anything there for an oil change.

For the record, I put a Jeg's LT1 elbow on that engine to eliminate the stock air tube. I also installed a cold-air kit. So there was no hockey puck in that configuration.

I did the hockey puck mod for the same reason you did - one less thing to pull off to get access to the motor. When the top end rebuild goes in, I'll be swapping out the elbow and removing the brackets. But until then I can't be bothered. It's just one less thing to worry about.

Why did you turn your OEM cold air intake into a warm air intake?

Eh, it's the age old question of more air, cold air or warm air. It looked cool and didn't hurt anything. It sounded neat too. It gets the air from the same place as the stock setup: behind the headlight. It just gets more of it. I'm going to do the same thing to the '94 as soon as I get the important stuff knocked down.

The guys on the turbo Buick forums will debate the question until the cows come home. The reality is that no matter where you put that air filter, it makes no difference in performance. I have back-to-back runs at the track to prove it. I ran my GN with the filter under the hood, out through a removed headlight and scooping it up with a "ram air" from under the bumper. No difference whatsoever.

I have just noticed rectangular Cadillac badge over the block and looks cool :D
BTW, it will never increase your performance but chrome LT1 oil caps are line icing on the cake lol
