: My Wagon is a mouth breather

Comparing pictures of the sedan I had to my wagon, it appears I have a mouth breather. I wonder if the hood can be adjusted to close down on the gap a bit.

Yes, I made sure the hood was fully shut.

I think the hood stops screw down and then you have to adjust the latch down some.

Yes, if the fender and hood edges aren't level, there's something wrong.

Should not be hard to lower down the front of the hood, surprised GM did not do better work on this car though.

My hood looks similar to yours. When I first saw it, one side was low and the other high. But the rubber stops were already as low as they go. All I could do was raise the low side to match the high side. Now it looks just like yours.

OK, I just fixed mine. The adjustable stoppers on either side are only a small part of the puzzle. The real difference was in the hood latch level. I lowered the latch and then raised the stoppers on either side to level things. The key is getting the latch as low as possible and still be able to get the hood completely closed and locked down. I found I needed the driver's side stopper all the way down and the passenger side raised about half way. The hood gap seems to be limited by the driver's size clearance for me.

It's a trial and error game. And to make it more complicated, you have to have the trim piece with the weather seal in place. I had it perfect without it, then it wouldn't latch close when I put the weather seal back on. Trial and error until it's right.

Now, hopefully the hood won't pop open @ 100 mph or over. It did on my 2013 but fortunately the second catch caught the hood, never did figure that one out as I know it was down tight. It was a good thing it never did happen again. It's a shame you have to go through all this BS with a brand new car, alignment issues, rear end replacement, all the other stuff. Seems like everyone just accepts this is the way that it is.

Yeah, you're telling me. I love this car but I've gone through more than one's share especially considering its in its fifth production year. I've had issues with new cars right when they're released but you'd think GM would iron out some gremlins by the fifth year. Things like the carpet bulge are inexcusable. Clearly they just set and forget the assembly line. I think my next car will be born in Stuttgart.

Had body alignment issues with 300C when new, but dealer took care of it. My V- wagon all good.

It might help if you calculate how much more the equivalent-performing German car would cost and how many days it would take you to earn that difference.

Anyway, my hood looks to be somewhere between the two photos above. But the hood seems aligned to the fenders along the sides, and the front gap hasn't bothered me up to now, so I'm disinclined to tweak it right now.

How do your hoods look along the sides?

And someone mentioned adjusting the latch, but I didn't see an obvious way to do that in the quick look I just took...

No problems with hood alignment along the hood and fenders gap. That's adjusted by loosing the bolts where the hood attaches by the windshield. The latch has two hex bolts on the right side and one on the left (when looking at it from the front with the hood up. You have to remove the trim piece that attaches to the engine bay weather stripping to see them well. You loosen all three and you can wiggle the latch up and down. Too low and the hood won't lock closed.

I even have a couple of body panels that aren't fully sprayed - but thankfully so far no major issues.

I don't know if I should blame the UAW, modern manufacturing tolerances, or GM specifically - but you'd think for a $70,000+ halo vehicle they would... I don't know, maybe give a shit about quality control?

Hell, even the Corvette Z06 has been plagued with problems - but most of the competition has plenty of issues too.

I guess "that's just the way it is" - unless you want to pedal to work.

I'm all for understanding that cars continue to become more and more complicated. As my wife says "more technology, more problems". But some of these issues are BASIC. No excuse.

I bought a Nissan 370Z 3 months after it was released. It needed a new steering wheel for cracking in the leather, a new airbag because the cover broke (separated where it's supposed to split when the airbag blows), and a new ECM because of a high pitch whining sound. But that car was utterly dependable and I drove the tires off the thing.

The V is feeling pretty delicate to me right now. The rear diff needing replacement has me not wanting to drive it quickly off the line for fear of messing up the new one and the alignment issue still bothers the hell out of me. We'll see if that's fixed this week though. I guess I should just drive it hard now while it's under warranty so the gremlins are gone for the years post-warranty.
