The 4t80e/vin9 northstar combo loses 70-90 horses to the tranny!!

"Ouch."

My question is, are there any ways to reduce that number? 16% IMO is acceptable for an auto...... 28% loss is HORRIBLE.

Where is this hp going? TC? The fluid pumps? Would a shift kit help?

Yeah they get you now days when they sell cars. The horsepower is usually at the crank when they tell you. They never usually give the the horses at the wheels. Whenever power is changed in direction it decreases simple science rule.

The vast majority of it, is lost to friction. Protech Transmission has a performance rebuild kit that "supposed" to reduce the coeficient of friction in the tranny, "resulting in more hp at the wheels". In all honesty, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it, short of spending alot of money, for a rather small gain. 16% is good for a manual transmission. Most automatics are around 20-22% on the average.
