Posted the purchase/pick-up details in the General forum, so a few quick pics :)

It's hard (for my poor skills anyway) to capture the true nature of this Black Diamond paint in pics, but it really is something to see in bright sunlight. In some of the pics below what looks like dust is actually some of the flake in the paint picking up the sun - car was freshly waxed and detailed so it was clean as a whistle. I swore (several times now with several cars) that I would never buy a black car again, but here I am...again...with a black car LOL.

Nice! Does the metallic dust make it easier to keep clean?

Ancient Mariner

I think it will help make light dusting a little less noticeable for sure - that's a good thing for my sanity LOL

LOL...hey they're all good, and it's hard to beat a cleanly detailed black car whatever the paint code. It's just that whole sanity thing keeping them clean :bonkers:

Nice, I didn't think the diamond black could look so good. My wife talked me out of it and I got the black raven instead. That front shot of the bumper and grille really shows off the shine. Great pics.

Thanks, an like I said, it's real hard to capture the true effect with my point and click photo abilities LOL, but yes real happy with the choice - it just POPS in any kind of direct light.

It's not just you. I wound up with a Black Diamond 2013 Regal T (after going ATS/Regal back and forth with my wife for months - Regal just works better as the main "family car").

I have tried to take a good picture of the Black Diamond in various lighting and shade conditions, and it is impossible. Either you don't get the diamond effect at all, or you get a car that looks dusty in other light. Some day someone is going to crack this and post a tutorial on the Internet.

One more with shading gradations showing different effects of light to good effect...ok I'm done now

I haven't seen the tri-coat in person but the pics look really nice. My brother chose the Raven over the Tri- coat because when he looked at the two side by side he said the tri-coat almost looked grey and the raven looked much darker and that's what he preferred. My 14 is going to be the Red Obsession Tintcoat and I was wondering if it had the metal flake in it also. I really like the black paint on the ATS but decided to go red this time because every other Cadillac I see is black.

Black or silver seems to be more common I agree. I'm sure that red will look great too and really stand out, nice choice!

I agree the Black Raven is very popular along with the silver but the tri-coat you have is unique and you don't see too many of them. I'm one of those cheap guys who doesn't like paying extra for special paint jobs but I wanted something different on the 14. My last 5 cars have either been black or red, I guess you could say I'm a big fan of either.

My dealer called and my car is scheduled to be built next week. I'm not sure how long it will take before it hits my dealers lot.

That's signifies how many doors are on the car. LOL! Not really, that is how many ATS's he owns, or is it the fourth one built? OK what it really signifies is that it's AWD.

That's understandable, where I live just south of Buffalo NY most of the Cadillacs are AWD and for good reason.

Canadian, eh. need the 4 for sure...But no worries, with that beautie, even the snow won't stick on that paint job. Now a snow bank is another matter, but a least they will find you, unlike me with my WD Tri... they would not find me till spring!! Happy Motoring

I got a 3.6 with the black diamond and when I bought it, it was cloudy day...stayed that way a few days and today I came outside and saw it for the first time in the sun...It was like nothing I saw before. My daughter put it best when she said it looks like there is a thousand stars on the car. Really an amazing paint. I had a toyota flint mica black on my last car but it is nothing compared to the cadillac paint. I am so glad I chose the3.6 ATS instead of the Q50

Nice pictures , i use also zaino products for years, but since i am in canada , i can't find a day to take a picture of my car clean.
Mine is phantom gray so less maintenance. I use Zaino all in one, Z2 with zfx, zaino clear seal and Z8.

I keep my car around three years and i have no swirls on my paint.

Beautiful pics! I bet this paint would hide small rock chips a lot better than a solid clearcoat paint would.

Don't know about rock chips...yet ;) , but it does great at hiding light dusting that used to drive me crazy on other black cars I've owned.

I certainly didn't mean to jinx you! :) However, I do think the metallic flake will definitely hide small imperfections a lot better than a solid black clearcoat.

My last two business sedan daily drivers have been black cars. I moved from Chicago to SW Florida in 2005 and when I arrived, I thought the days of my cars getting abused by foul weather was over. However, I soon realized that Florida presents its own set of challenges.

After about one year of daily, high-speed driving on the interstate, I noticed that the front end of my black Acura was looking a little rough. I kept washing and detailing the car (I'm nuts about it - ask my wife), I noticed more and more damage. I finally asked a friend of mine who owns a body shop and works on our Corvette club cars what was causing it and he told me the high winds that blow over the Florida peninsula on a daily basis raise up the sandbed and blows sand in the air. Even on a sunny, clear day this is happening and you don't notice it because the sand is so fine. If you're driving 70 MPH into a 30 MPH headwind, you're literally sand-blasting your car at 100 MPH. You won't exprience this type of damage if your just driving around town, however since my business driving has me on interstate highways between Tampa, Orlando, Miami, etc., I'm usually driving around 70 - 80 MPH.

Anyway, lesson learned. I love black cars and I think the Black Diamond tricoat is the perfect compromise between a black clearcoat and the lighter gray or silver paint options. Although I don't drive as many miles as I used to, I still get plenty of expressway driving in, so the first mod I will perform will be to add a 3M clear film bra on the front bumper, partial hood and side mirrors!

Plus, I think the GM/Cadillac paint is a lot more resiliant to damage than the Honda/Acura paint. The finish on my 2004 Corvette is still near perfect, although it has a lot less miles.

Nice clean Vette! But yea that Acura has taken a bit of a beating. And no doubt I'll have some next spring after a winters driving with salt and sand everywhere - will see then how it stood up (and hides surface damage) after the usual spring cleaning/refurbishing event.

I've been using this stuff last couple years - it has decent durability, and it's a bit shinier which I personally prefer.
