: Wheel bearing install question.

So, I've got a bad bearing on the front ps side. I went ahead and bought new bearings and races, grease seal, and the race driver.

My question is, how do I tighten the castle nut to the proper tightness.

I understand too tight is bad, and too loose is bad. It is supposed to be hand tight but how hard should I tighten it?

Stupid question, I know. But I'd rather look dumb on here, than look dumb on the side of the road.

Also, I've already taken it all apart, so I can't just count the number of turns when taking it off.

Thanks,
Tom.

Tighten with a pair of Channelocks as you turn the rotor. As the drag increases, the bearing seats. You will feel the difference. Stop tightening, back off the nut to the next hole. Cotter pin, cap, done.

You tighten the nut while spinning the wheel. I believe the SM rate was 34 ft/lbs, if your using a torque wench. Then you back off an 1/4 turn, then tighten until the nut cage aligns with the cotter pin hole in the spindle. :)
