Saw the Cadillac under 5 commerical a bunch of times and I kept wondering if I can make my Deville go from 0-60 under 5, I called a local performance shop and they said anything is possible with Cadillacs.
Can a Deville go fast and still handle well? It is a heavy car so I bet cornering will be an issue...

Not sure why no one else has jumped in here yet...
I doubt very highly the Deville is a candidate for a sub 5-second 0-60 time unless it is strapped to the nose cone of an ICBM or something. Too heavy and simply not designed for it.
However, the Deville CAN go fast and still handle well - few Deville drivers take the car to anywhere near its limits (I'm speaking of the last 8 or 10 years of Devilles, not necessarily the "older" ones..) but it is set up pretty well, for a 2-ton four door sedan.
I regularly take a very tight 180-degree offramp from the expressway going to work that, in the best traditions of New Jersey highway builders, not only has a negative camber (it tilts away from the inside of the curve) but it follows a decreasing radius as well. The speed sign says 15. I can cruise around it at 45-50 without even a chirp from the wheels, and the car shows no sign of alarm. (Dry road, no other cars, of course). Watching the local SUV herd go around it, they usually have to lean on each other to keep from tipping over. LOL
Just keep in mind the style and size of the car, and you'll be pleasantly suprised. Don't toss it around corners like an MG Midget or anything, but if you let the FWD pull you around, and don't be afraid to accelerate OUT of a corner, it does pretty damn well. All nice and quiet too...

yeah my 90 Deville with a 4.5 corners nice and flat and pulls great out of corners.. its pretty quick off the line but spins the right wheel a bit.. i doubt 0-60 in under 5. But it sure isnt a slouch either.

Anything's possible with enough money. I'd say, however, that even if you beefed the power up enough to pull it off the FWD is going to be your limiting factor.

With the Northstar, a lot of things are possible, but in this case, the FWD pretty much kills all the chances. I don't think there's any way to beef up the transmission enough and/or overcome the issues with axle strength, etc. and make it an "under 5" vehicle. Just won't happen.

Covert it to RWD, drop in a LS2 with a supercharger, and you'll have the worlds first sub-5 second 1998 Deville!
In reality, I doubt it could be done without doing something major like that! The engine would require a lot more power, and the transmission would have to have a limited slip installed and much larger tires to hook up enough.
Hmmm...wonder if my 472 will fit in my '94 Deville???? Where's Jesse James and Monster Garage?
